  • Publication number: 20050130189
Abstract: Compositions and methods for diagnosing and treating CVH and CVH-associated disorders are disclosed. Genes differentially expressed in CVH tissues relative to normal tissues are identified. The genes and the gene products (i.e., the polynucleotides transcribed from and polypeptides encoded by the genes) can be used as markers of CVH. The genes and the gene products can also be used to screen agents that modulate the gene expression or the activities of the gene products.

  • Publication number: 20050101030
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for detecting the presence of TRAIL in cells. The invention also provides methods for identifying dysplastic or cancer cells, methods of identifying substances for use in treating dysplastic or cancer cells, as well as methods for making compounds that are useful in treating dysplastic or cancer cells.

  • Publication number: 20050090842
Abstract: The holding device of the endoscope allows suspension of the tissue while it is held and fixed securely. Use of holding device with large distal ends will not damage tissue and allows holding and suspension of a large area. A needle pierces at least the proper muscularis, thereby forming a large protrusion including the proper muscularis of the stomach and the esophagus as artificial valve to prevent reflux effectively. The holding device, formed extending out of the distal end of the endoscope, can touch the tissue easily under observation of the endoscope. Treatment is simple, and takes a shorter time.

  • Publication number: 20050021101
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of regulating gastrointestinal action in a subject using a stimulatory electrode and a sensor to provide retrograde feedback control of electrical stimulation to the GI tract. The invention is further directed to a method for reducing weight in a subject, again using a stimulatory electrode and a sensor to provide retrograde feedback control of electrical stimulation to the stomach. The invention is further directed to a method of providing electrical field stimulation to a gastrointestinal organ, as well as a method of providing an electrical potential gradient in a gastrointestinal organ. Further provided is a method of stimulating the vagus nerve of a subject. Additionally provided is a method of placing a device in the gastrointestinal tract or wall of a subject from the exterior of the subject, using a needle to insert the device.
