  • Patent number: 6796650
Abstract: An ink jet printing system includes an ink receiving sheet and an ink-jet printer. The ink receiving sheet includes a support, at least one receiving layer and a top coat layer. The ink-jet printer includes an ink-jet cartridge comprising an ink. The receiving layer includes a hydrophilic binder and a vinyl polymeric compound and has a total coverage weight of at least 12 g/m2, and the top coat layer is free of vinyl polymeric compounds and comprises a hydrophilic binder and a corn starch matting agent. The ink includes a dye selected from the group consisting of azo and disazo dye at a concentration higher than 4% by weight, in order to achieve an optical density higher than 3.00.

  • Publication number: 20040072940
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for synthesizing a particulate copolymer comprising: providing a reaction mixture comprising a reaction medium, a polymerization stabilizer, a water-insoluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing hydrophilic functionality, said reaction mixture having a viscosity value of at least 10 cps measured at 40° C., and polymerizing the water-insoluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer and the ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing hydrophilic functionality. The polymerization reaction is preferably conducted at a temperature lower than 100° C. and activated by a polymerization catalyst. The resulting particulate copolymer dispersion comprises copolymer particles showing a weight average diameter size in the range of microns and absence of defects, such as coagulant or agglomerates.

  • Publication number: 20030118792
Abstract: The present invention refers to a recording medium having an ink-receiving layer comprising an alumina hydrate and an acid-processed gelatin, wherein the acid-processed gelatin is a modified gelatin with at least some blocked carboxylic groups. The viscosity of the dispersion doesn't abruptly increase and the dispersing state remains good. In addition, the use of said dispersion provides the advantage to obtain an ink-receiving layer with proper thickness, with a glossy surface and free of defects, such as cracks or microcoagulations.
