  • Publication number: 20220039688
Abstract: An entirely disposable combined antimicrobial filter and flowmeter device for spirometry applications comprises a tubular body, with an inlet end portion, an outlet end portion, and an intermediate portion of enlarged diameter in the form of a discoidal shell. In the discoidal shell both an antimicrobial filtering membrane and a discoidal net of plastic material generating a pressure differential are arranged, it has an outer peripheral edge fixed to an inner annular lip of one of said bell-shaped portions of the discoidal shell, said annular lip being coaxial to said cylindrical wall. One of the filtering membrane and the pressure differential generating network has an outer peripheral edge fixed to the cylindrical wall of the discoidal shell, while the other of the filtering membrane and the pressure differential generating network has an outer peripheral edge fixed to an inner annular lip of one of the bell-shaped portions defining the discoidal shell.

  • Patent number: 10136837
Abstract: A device and a method for the analysis of the air exhaled by a subject in order to measure basal metabolism of the subject comprise a main line for a sampling flow of the air exhaled by a subject who breathes spontaneously or a subject undergoing assisted pulmonary ventilation. A mixing mini-chamber is provided for mixing a plurality of air sampling flows exhaled by the subject within a number of respiratory cycles. Sensors for sensing the oxygen concentration and the carbon dioxide concentration respectively measure the oxygen concentration and the carbon dioxide concentration within the air flow in the main line. The device further comprises an electronic control unit which processes signals from the sensors for obtaining a measurement of metabolism of the subject within a number of respiratory cycles.

  • Patent number: 9999374
Abstract: A flowmeter and filter assembly for spirometry have a flowmeter with a turbine rotor and sensor means for detecting the speed of rotation of the rotor, and a filter upstream of the flowmeter. An air-conveying device modifies the direction of the flow of air at an outlet from the filter to set the rotor in rotation within the flowmeter. The air-conveying device is integrated in the filter instead of in the flowmeter.

  • Patent number: 9581539
Abstract: A device for measuring the consumption of oxygen and the consumption of carbon dioxide by a subject comprises an air collecting member for collecting the flow of air breathed, a flowmeter for measuring the flow rate of air exhaled by the subject, and a sampling line for sampling a portion of the flow of air exhaled by the subject. A pump, with substantially constant capacity draws the aforesaid portion of flow of air into the sampling line. A mixing chamber is interposed in the sampling line for collecting and mixing together flows of air exhaled by the subject in a number of breathing cycles. Means for sensing the concentration of oxygen and means for sensing the concentration of carbon dioxide are arranged in the sampling line.

  • Patent number: 7621271
Abstract: Device for the measurement of oxygen consumption which, by use of a mixing chamber of small dimensions, allows compensation of the time delay between the measurement of the ventilation VE and that of average oxygen concentration of the exhaled air volume FeO2. The time delay between measurement of VE and FeO2 maintains a constant value under all ventilations, thanks to a dynamic control of the air quantity collected and introduced in the microchamber and to a dynamic update of proportion factor K, performed by a control system. This enables a precise measurement of oxygen consumption also with rapid ventilation changes.
