  • Patent number: 10465602
Abstract: A hybrid powertrain includes an internal combustion engine having a crankshaft rotating at an engine speed, and a variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT) having a compressor and a turbine. The turbine has turbine vanes, and is configured to rotate in response to exhaust flow from the engine to thereby rotate the compressor. An electric machine is configured to selectively deliver motor torque to the crankshaft upon completion of a predetermined operating mode of the powertrain. The engine and electric machine have a corresponding speed that is responsive to acceleration and braking requests. A controller executes a method in which the controller coordinates vane position of the turbine vanes with the motor torque of the electric machine in response to engine speed, doing so during a zero pedal maneuver in which the acceleration and braking requests are both zero.

  • Publication number: 20140196701
Abstract: A method is provided for operating an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system of a thermal energy source, the EGR system includes, but is not limited to an EGR circuit and an EGR cooler, the EGR cooler connected in a heat exchanging relationship with an EGR coolant circuit equipped with an EGR coolant pump. The method includes, but is not limited to monitoring a parameter (TEGRcool) representative of a temperature of the coolant in the EGR coolant circuit, operating the EGR coolant pump on the basis of the parameter (TEGRcool) and of a target value thereof (TEGRtgt).

  • Patent number: 8543317
Abstract: A method is provided for estimating the relative humidity in an intake line of an internal combustion engine provided with an intake manifold connected to the intake line, an exhaust line, and a Low Pressure EGR (LPE) conduit which fluidly connects the exhaust line to a connecting point of said intake line. The method includes, but is not limited to calculating specific humidity in the exhaust line, as a function of the O2 concentration in said exhaust line; determining ambient specific humidity; calculating specific humidity in a portion of the intake line comprised between said connecting point and said intake manifold, as a function of a flow of external air entering into said intake line, a flow of exhaust gases coming from said Low Pressure EGR (LPE) conduit, the specific humidity in said exhaust line and the ambient specific humidity; calculating the relative humidity in said portion of the intake line, as a function of the specific humidity thereof.

  • Publication number: 20110120428
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling the level of oxygen concentration in the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine system. The engine having an intake manifold and an exhaust manifold and corresponding intake and exhaust lines, the intake line having a leading point for mixing of fresh air, first and second EGR routes, a charge air cooler located in the intake line upstream the intake manifold and downstream the second EGR route, a turbocharger having a compressor located in the intake line and a turbine located in the exhaust line, the exhaust line having a diesel oxidation catalyst and an antiparticulate filter. The system has a regulator for regulating the flow rate of exhaust gas. The regulator including, but not limited to a low pressure EGR valve associated to the second EGR route.
