Patent number: 9414429Abstract: Techniques for maintaining an always-on data session for an access terminal are described. Messages to keep alive the data session may be sent using non-traffic channels to avoid bringing up traffic channels just to send these messages. In one design, an access network may send a first message (e.g., a RouteUpdateRequest message) on a first non-traffic channel (e.g., a control channel) to the access terminal. The access terminal may return a second message (e.g., a RouteUpdate message) on a second non-traffic channel (e.g., an access channel) to the access network. The access network may then send a third message (e.g., for an Echo-Request) on the first non-traffic channel over a smaller area covering an approximate location of the access terminal, which may be determined based on the second message. The access terminal may return a fourth message (e.g., for an Echo-Reply) on the second non-traffic channel to the access network.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2007Date of Patent: August 9, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Ajith T. Patent number: 9392608Abstract: Methods and apparatus for partitioning resources for enhanced inter-cell interference coordination (eICIC) are provided. Certain aspects involve broadcasting a message indicating time-domain resource partitioning information (RPI), where a user equipment (UE) may be operating in idle mode. With the RPI, the UE may be able to identify protected resources with reduced/eliminated interference from neighboring cells. The RPI in this broadcasted message may be encoded as a bitmap as an alternative or in addition to enumeration of the U/N/X subframes. Other aspects entail transmitting a dedicated or unicast message indicating the time-domain RPI, where a UE may be operating in connected mode. With the RPI, the UE may be able to determine channel state information (CSI), make radio resource management (RRM) measurements, or perform radio link monitoring (RLM), based on one or more signals from a serving base station during the protected time-domain resources.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2011Date of Patent: July 12, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Osok Song, Aleksandar Damnjanovic, Tingfang Ji, Taesang Yoo, Parag Arun Agashe, Madhavan Srinivasan Vajapeyam, Yongbin Wei, Tao Luo, Rajat Prakash, Masato Kitazoe

Publication number: 20160179164Abstract: Various embodiments of methods and systems for dynamically adjusting a peak dynamic power threshold are disclosed. Advantageously, embodiments of the solution for peak dynamic power management optimize a peak dynamic power threshold based on estimations of real-time leakage current levels and/or actual power supply levels to a power domain of a system on a chip (“SoC”). In this way, embodiments of the solution ensure that a maximum amount of available power supply is allocated to dynamic power consumption for processing workloads at an optimum performance or quality of service (“QoS”) level without risking that the total power consumption (leakage power consumption+dynamic power consumption) for the power domain exceeds the power supply capacity.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2014Publication date: June 23, 2016Inventors: HEE-JUN PARK, PARAG ARUN AGASHE, MOHAMMAD TAMJIDI

Publication number: 20160174041Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate routing of messages of a positioning protocol, such as long term evolution (LTE) positioning protocol annex (LPPa). A positioning server can determine a network area identifier of one or more messages based at least in part on an identifier of a base station associated with the one or more messages. Based at least in part on the network area identifier, the positioning server can provide the one or more messages to an intermediate network node corresponding to the one or more base stations, such as a mobility management entity (MME). MME can similarly provide the one or more messages to an optional gateway between it and the one or more base stations based at least in part on receiving the network area identifier in the one or more messages. In addition, a base station can update positioning information with the positioning server.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2016Publication date: June 16, 2016Inventors: Gavin Bernard Horn, Parag Arun Agashe, Nathan Edward Tenny

Patent number: 9363038Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing channel quality information (CQI) and scheduling resources subject to cooperative resource allocation based on the CQI are provided. To convey the CQI for protected/unprotected subframes in a single report, a new vector CQI format may be utilized. Two alternatives for CQI processing this vector format and the advantages of each are described. In the first alternative, a single entry from the CQI vector is selected for processing by a downlink scheduler and/or other media access control (MAC) blocks (e.g., a PHICH, DCI power control, and/or PDCCH scheduler). In the second alternative, the selection from the CQI vector is made on a per-subframe basis, and both the subframe and the selected CQI element are processed by the downlink scheduler and/or the other MAC blocks. In this manner, better scheduling decisions may be made using the CQI vector.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2011Date of Patent: June 7, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Madhavan Srinivasan Vajapeyam, Parag Arun Agashe, Tingfang Ji, Aleksandar Damnjanovic

Patent number: 9326213Abstract: Handover parameter settings are automatically adapted in access points in a system to improve handover performance. Reactive detection techniques are employed for identifying different types of handover-related failures and adapting handover parameters based on this detection. Messaging schemes are also employed for providing handover-related information to access points. Proactive detection techniques also may be used for identifying conditions that may lead to handover-related failures and then adapting handover parameters in an attempt to prevent such handover-related failures. Ping-ponging may be mitigated by adapting handover parameters based on analysis of access terminal visited cell history acquired by access points in the system. In addition, configurable parameters (e.g., timer values) may be used to detect handover-related failures.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2015Date of Patent: April 26, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Amer Catovic, Parag Arun Agashe, Rajarshi Gupta, Gavin Bernard Horn, Rajat Prakash, Fatih Ulupinar

Patent number: 9173239Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to connected-state radio session transfer in wireless communications. A target access network controller may create a radio session associated with an access terminal, the radio session corresponding with a source radio session at a source access network controller. The target access network controller may also establish a communication route between a data network and the access terminal via the target access network controller. The target access network controller may further receive a frozen state associated with the source radio session from the source access network controller. In an aspect, the frozen state may include a snapshot of any data being communicated through the source radio session when freezing occurred. Patent number: 9130698Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate indicating a loss of channel quality on a component carrier of a plurality of component carriers. A UE can monitor configured component carriers to determine channel qualities associated therewith. The UE can transmit carrier quality information that includes the channel qualities of the plurality of component carriers. In addition, the UE can identify a component carrier experiencing a loss of channel quality and notify a base station of the component carrier with poor channel conditions. In one aspect, the UE can incorporate additional information into a scheduling request. In addition, the UE can generate a CQI report that contains the carrier quality information. Further, the base station, when a loss of channel quality occurs, can retry transmission on different carriers. Moreover, the base station can employ information provided by the UE when selecting a component carrier for a transmission.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2010Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Aamod Dinkar Khandekar, Nathan Edward Tenny, Parag Arun Agashe, Wanshi Chen, Jelena M.
