  • Publication number: 20100014644
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing automated processing of a switched voice alarm on a switched and/or Internet Protocol (IP) network are disclosed. For example, the method receives an alarm associated with a switched voice service, and retrieves a Local Routing Number (LRN) or Primary Inter-exchange Carrier (PIC) information from a switch serving a call associated with a caller's telephone number. The method determines if the alarm is due to one or more service degradations, and notifies a work center responsible for one or more of the service degradations if the alarm is due to the one or more service degradations.

  • Publication number: 20100014651
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatic processing of toll free call service alarms are disclosed. For example, the method receives a trouble ticket by a service provider for a toll free call service alarm, and retrieves a calling to number and a calling from number from the trouble ticket. The method determines if the service provider is a responsible organization for the toll free call service for the calling to number, and determines if a customer network for the toll free call service is active if the service provider is the responsible organization for the toll free call service. The method notifies a work center if the customer network is not active.

  • Patent number: 7630325
Abstract: A method includes retrieving a first data set from a switch within a network, the first data set including a set of switch records. Among the switch records included in the first data set is a first switch record associated with and including a field identifying a first trunk group from a set of trunk groups included within the switch. A second data set is retrieved from a configuration management system configured to facilitate an operation associated with the network. The second data set includes a plurality of configuration records, which includes a first configuration record associated with and including a field identifying the first trunk group. When the field included in the first configuration record differs from the field included in the first switch record a report is produced.

  • Patent number: 7627093
Abstract: A method includes receiving multiple alarm messages, each being associated with a failure associated with a service feature available within a telecommunication network. A failure rate for a type of failure having a common set of service feature failure characteristics is determined from the alarm messages received. When the failure rate exceeds a threshold, a maintenance ticket is generated automatically.

  • Publication number: 20090290498
Abstract: A method and apparatus includes automatically correlating indicators already generated by network components to detect and isolate failures that are caused by or related to network components operating on different layers of the open system interconnect (OSI) model. Failure indicators that persist for longer than a specified time window are automatically detected and correlated with one another based on a topology table. The method uses indicators already generated by the network components, obviating the need for software that typically resides on and consumes valuable processing time of network components.

  • Publication number: 20090271261
Abstract: A system and methodology for providing policy driven, user requested advertising is disclosed. Networked users may be provided with selected advertisements to a targeted network access device during a specified broadcast event based on user preferences. The system includes a computing device coupled to at least one communications network and adapted for: receiving user preferences comprising desired advertising content, and specified network access device information for receiving and displaying the advertising thereon. The user preferences are stored in a database and matched to the user preferences with advertising content by at least one advertiser during the specified broadcast event. The advertisements that meet the user preferences are thereafter communicated over at least one communications network to at least one network access device specified in the user selected preferences.

  • Publication number: 20090238077
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing automated processing of a virtual connection alarm on a packet network, e.g., a Virtual Private Network (VPN), are disclosed. For example, the method receives an alarm related to at least one virtual connection for a virtual private network (VPN) from a provider edge (PE) router, and determines whether the VPN has reached a first threshold for a maximum number of virtual connections or a second threshold for a pre-determined percentage of the maximum number of virtual connections. The method generates a new ticket or updating an existing ticket in response to the alarm if either the first threshold or the second threshold is reached.

  • Publication number: 20090228941
Abstract: A test system can include a test controller, a source system, and a measurement system. The source system can provide a test video clip or test packetized data stream that is injected into a broadcast portion of a service provider's access network at a point similar where other broadcast content would be introduced. The measurement system can be coupled to network equipment downstream or to a capture device, which is coupled to network equipment downstream. Configurations allow for more than one source system, measurement system, or capture system to allow flexibility in implementation for a particular application. The test system can be used to detect a problem or other issue before a customer at a customer premises would experience degradation in quality of experience.

  • Patent number: 7584083
Abstract: A method includes generating a model of an existing workcenter process and a modified version of the existing workcenter process based on one or more decision-making parameters. The workcenter process is a workcenter process for a telecommunications network. The model for the existing workcenter process and the model for the modified version of the existing workcenter process are simulated to determine whether to modify any of the process steps in the existing workcenter process. The decision is based on the effect on the decision-making parameter(s) of modifying the workcenter process from the existing workcenter process.
