  • Patent number: 4635050
Abstract: A cathode ray tube provides a raster can symbol display superimposed on a stroke vector display, with selected regions of the stroke vector display preferentially masked in response to priority instructions. Stroke vector priority data is loaded into a full-field bit-mapped memory by a raster symbol generator and used to provide a stroke vector masking signal in synchronism with the picture elements of the raster scan. The system provides efficient generation of dynamic stroke priority areas by utilizing the repetitive nature of the raster scan to load the stroke priority full-field bit-mapped memory without requiring corresponding processor intervention.

  • Patent number: 4386345
Abstract: A color cathode ray tube display apparatus particularly for use under a wide range of ambient light conditions, such as in an aircraft cockpit, wherein each of the primary color phosphors has a unique brightness versus cathode drive characteristic, which characteristic also is dependent upon whether the displayed information is raster written or stroke written and wherein such characteristics also may vary from tube to tube. The output of at least one cockpit ambient light sensor in addition to a pilot selected brightness is used on a continuous basis to calculate a reference brightness level for the sensed ambient brightness conditions and display writing mode, this reference brightness level being used to calculate the corresponding brightness level for each of the primary color components of the commanded symbology color and concomitant drive voltages to the CRT's cathode or cathodes.

  • Patent number: 4247843
Abstract: Apparatus for providing an integrated display of flight instrument parameters on the screen of a single cathode ray tube is presented. The synthetically generated symbology provides the pilot with an integrated display of substantially all aircraft attitude and flight path command and control parameters including attitude and magnetic heading, barometric and radiometric attitude, vertical spread, critical take-off speeds, true airspeed and Mach airspeed, flight path angle, flight director path control commands, and mode annunciation for the flight director and automatic pilot systems.

  • Patent number: 4149148
Abstract: Apparatus for providing an integrated display of flight instrument parameters on the screen of a single cathode ray tube is presented. The synthetically generated symbology is equivalent to that typically provided by ten conventional electromechanical instruments including an attitude-director indicator, horizontal situation indicator, pressure altimeter, radio altimeter, vertical speed indicator, radio magnetic indicator, Mach airspeed indicator, autopilot-flight director mode annunciator, load factor indicator and true air-speed indicator.

  • Patent number: 4070662
Abstract: The display generator comprises a map memory having a plurality of addressable locations corresponding respectively to a plurality of incremental display cell areas of the display screen. The apparatus further includes a symbol memory having a plurality of storage matrices for storing the respective plurality of patterns and symbols to be selectively written into the incremental display area cells to thereby form a display picture. The display raster is generated by digital circuits which sequentially address the map memory locations. The map memory words stored in the respective locations each includes a symbol memory address. The digital raster generation circuits are also coupled to the symbol memory for addressing the line of the symbol selected by the map memory for the line by line writing of the selected symbols in the cells of the display.
