  • Patent number: 7801912
Abstract: Method and apparatus for a searchable data service are described. The searchable data service may be implemented as a Web service with a Web service interface that allows the storage of locators and other attributes associated with entities stored in a data store in a searchable index. The attributes may be expressed as {name, value} pairs. The interface may allow client applications to query the searchable index to retrieve locators for entities in the backend data store according to the attributes associated with each locator. Search speed may be automatically optimized using, for example, indexes, query planning, and parallelism. The searchable data service provides a searchable index and is not a data store per se. The searchable data service separates searching and indexing of data from the actual storage of the data.

  • Patent number: 7685109
Abstract: Method and apparatus for repartitioning and replication of a searchable index in a searchable data service. The searchable data service may provide a searchable index to a backend data store. The searchable index may be repartitioned, and a partition may be moved to another storage node, to allow the searchable index to grow beyond the limits of a single storage device. Repartitioning may also be performed to provide load-balancing of write requests. Partitions may be replicated across two or more storage nodes to provide redundancy, data durability, data availability and load balancing of read requests among the storage nodes and/or across data centers. In one embodiment, a lazy replication mechanism may be used in the replication of partitions. In one embodiment, replication may be performed using an anti-entropy protocol to replicate a partition, and a gossip protocol to update the replicated partition.

  • Publication number: 20080256079
Abstract: A system and method is described to determine routing configurations to route data from data producers to data consumers. Each routing configuration corresponds to a time period during which data is routed from the data producers to the data consumers. Data is routed from the data producers to the data consumers according to previously determined data routing configurations during time periods prior to a current time period. Based at least in part on indications of the data load on the data consumers corresponding to actual data routing during the time periods prior to the current time period, a new data routing configuration is determined. During the current time period, data is routed from the data producers to the data consumers according to the determined new data routing configuration.

  • Patent number: 7356136
Abstract: When a customer premises internet telephony device (CPE) is manufactured, the factory stores a unique CPE ID number and a contact for a pre-provisioning server in non volatile memory of the CPE. At the time a CPE is purchased by a customer, an internet telephony service provider is selected and a provisioning entity is assigned to the CPE. The unique CPE ID number and a provisioning contact are stored on the pre-provisioning server. At some future time, when the CPE is coupled to the internet, the CPE contacts the pre-provisioning server using the contact for the pre-provisioning server stored in its non volatile memory to obtain the provisioning contact for its assigned provisioning entity.

  • Publication number: 20050105508
Abstract: A sub-manager interfaces between a traditional SNMP network management system (NMS) a plurality of clients, each of which may be served by a network address and port translation firewall. The sub-manager operates a master management information base and receives master network management request messages from the network management server. The master network management request message includes at least one master object identifier which comprises a client identifier which identifies a particular one of the clients and a variable portion that identifies a variable value within a client management information base. The sub-manager, in response, generates one or more client network management request messages to identified clients over TCP/IP connections through the firewall. The client network management request message includes a client object identifier that identifies the variable within the client management information base.

  • Patent number: 6130929
Abstract: Computed tomographic ("CT") x-ray scanning yields a discrete set of measurement values that are line integrals of attenuation coefficients .mu.(r), which attenuation coefficients may be obtained using suitable reconstruction techniques. Electronic beam computed tomograph ("EBCT") systems add error to the reconstructed attenuation coefficients owing to their unique cone geometry. A method is provided that reduces such errors. At least two scans, "tilted" by the system cone angle, collect data in the neighborhood of a reference plane normal to the system z-axis. These scans are rebinned into parallel projections, and a series expansion is considered for variation of .mu.(r) in the vicinity of the reference plane. If a first order series is considered sufficient, then two scans are required to estimate the slope A of the variation in data. The data can then be corrected for the "tilt" and line integrals on the reference plane normal to the z-axis obtained.
