    Abstract: A suspension unit is disclosed having a hanger having a front face with an aperture and a control arm having a front face with an aperture. The control arm is pivotally attached to and depends from the hanger such that the front face of the hanger and the front face of the control arm are opposed one another with the aperture on the front face of the hanger being aligned with the aperture on the front face of the control arm. A jounce spring and a rebound spring are coaxially mounted to a shaft. The shaft is mounted through the apertures and springs. The rebound spring is positioned between the front faces of the hanger and the control arm and the jounce spring is positioned horizontally to one side of both the hanger and the control arm with the shaft in a horizontal orientation.

    Abstract: An independent suspension with no axle is disclosed which includes a hanger and a control arm having opposite first and second ends pivotally mounted to the hanger between the first and second ends. The suspension unit further includes a spindle arm mounted to the first end of the control arm. The suspension unit also includes a jounce spring on the control arm and a rebound spring mounted between the control arm and the hanger. The control arm and hanger are configured such that when the first end of the control arm pivots towards the frame of the vehicle the jounce spring is compressed and the rebound spring is relaxed and when the first end of the control arm moves away from the frame the jounce spring is relaxed and the rebound spring is compressed.

    Abstract: There is disclosed an independent suspension unit for a vehicle which does not require an axle. The suspension unit includes a hanger for mounting to the vehicle's frame. A control arm is provided which has opposite first and second ends, the control arm being pivotally mounted to the hanger at a pivot point positioned between the first and second ends of the control arm. The suspension unit further includes a spindle arm mounted to the first end of the control arm, the spindle arm configured to mount to the wheel. The suspension unit also includes a jounce spring made of an elastomeric polymer material mounted between the control arm and the hanger at a first point on the control arm positioned between the pivot point and the first end. The suspension unit also includes a rebound spring made of an elastomeric polymer material mounted between the control arm and the hanger at a second point of the control arm adjacent the second end.

    Abstract: A suspension system for wheeled vehicles, particularly trailers, that is mounted underneath the vehicle frame and forward of the axle (in case of a single axle suspension) and both forward and rearward of axles (in case of a tandem axle suspension). The suspension system at each side of the vehicle frame comprises a hanger, a control arm and an elastomer spring. The hanger has a support bracket and a hanger channel and is the frame bracket connecting the suspension to the vehicle frame. The elastomer spring biases the control arm and the hanger and therefore isolates the vibration of the suspended portion of the vehicle (the sprung mass) from that of the axle(s) and wheels (the unsprung mass).
