  • Patent number: 7181678
Abstract: Document clustering method and system utilizing both the log-based clustering method and the content-based clustering method are disclosed. The method includes the steps of generating log-based document clusters and combining vectors from the log-based document clusters with individual document clusters for content-based clustering analysis. The log-based document clusters are generated by accessing the retrieval session log, clustering the retrieval sessions, and combining the documents opened during each of the sessions of session clusters.

  • Patent number: 6920448
Abstract: A system and method for performing domain-specific knowledge based metasearches. A metasearch engine is provided for accessing a searching text-based documents using generic search engines while simultaneously being able to access publication based databases and sequence databases as well as in-house proprietary databases and any database capable of being interfaced with a web interface so as to produce search results in text format. A data mining module is also provided for organizing raw data obtained by unsupervised clustering, simple relevance ranking, and categorization, all of which are done independently of one another. The system is capable of storing previous search data for use in query refinement or subsequent searches based upon the stored data. A search results collection browser may be provided for analyzing current browsing patterns of the user for developing weighting factors to be used in ordering the results of future searches.

  • Publication number: 20040068514
Abstract: Systems and methods for database searching and data analysis with simultaneous, unified access to multiple heterogeneous data sources with effective reuse of user search session information for data analysis. The systems comprise a data source containing at least a partial copy of at least two public databases, at least one search program module operatively coupled to the data source and configured to carry out a search of the databases in the data source according to a user query, a data mining module operatively coupled to the data source and configured to provide for clustering of search results or documents from the user query and a user interface program module operatively coupled to the search program module and the data mining module, the user interface program module configured provide a visual interface for creating the user query and viewing the search results.

  • Patent number: 6502091
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for relating user queries and documents. The apparatus includes a client, a server, and a database being mutually coupled to a communications pathway. The client is configured to enable a user to submit user queries to locate documents. The server has a data mining mechanism configured to receive the user queries and generate information retrieval sessions. The database stores data in the form of usage logs generated from the information retrieval sessions. The data mining mechanism includes a clustering algorithm operative to identify context groups and usage categories. The data mining mechanism is operative to identify query contexts associated with individual queries from the usage logs, partition the queries into context groups having similar contexts, and compute multiple context groups associated with specific query keywords from the usage logs. A method is provided for associating user queries and documents in accordance with the apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20020062334
Abstract: Dynamic agents and a dynamic agent infrastructure (platform) that provides a shift from static distributed computing to dynamic distributed computing are provided. The infrastructure supports dynamic behavior modification of agents. For example, a dynamic agent is not designated to have a fixed set of predefined functions but, instead, to carry application specific actions, which can be loaded and modified on the fly. Dynamic behavior modification allows a dynamic agent to adjust its capability for accommodating environment and requirement changes, and to play different roles across multiple applications. These features are supported by the light-weight, built-in management facilities of dynamic agents, which can be commonly used by the “carried” application programs to communicate, manage resources, and modify their problem solving capabilities.
