  • Patent number: 7648069
Abstract: Apparatus including a conveyor for identifying a plurality of items each of which has a radio frequency transponder. A three dimensional (3D) radio frequency antenna is positioned on one side of the conveyor. The conveyor has a movable part for moving the items into and out of the antenna such that the items when in the antenna are completely surrounded by the antenna. A reader sends interrogation signals to the transponders via the antenna and reads identification information from the transponders. The 3D antenna includes a plurality of coils mounted in a 3D arrangement such as to provide a 3D reading field in which all transponders in the reading field may be interrogated. The 3D antenna also includes noise compensation coils at opposite ends of the reading field to minimize electromagnetic radiation from the antenna and also minimize noise from external sources affecting reading of the transponders.

Abstract: A three dimensional (3D) radio frequency antenna is positioned on one side of a conveyor which has a movable part for moving items, each of which has a radio frequency transponder, into and out of the antenna such that the items when in the antenna are completely surrounded by the antenna. The radio frequency transponder includes a housing, a substrate within the housing, an integrated circuit and a printed circuit board mounted on the substrate. A coil is mounted on the substrate such as to be spaced therefrom with the spacing of the coil from the substrate enabling the encapsulant to completely surround the coil.

  • Patent number: 6753759
Abstract: A transponder includes a data memory and a mechanism for contactless interaction with a base station. The transponder is brought (1) into an active field of the base station. Before the transponder is deactivated (7) by the base station by the transfer of a command signal (5), the authorization of the base station for deactivation (7) is checked (4). Before the transfer of the command signal (5) an admission signal which contains first admission information is transmitted (3) from the base station to the transponder. The first admission information with second admission information stored in the data memory is processed by the transponder into authorization information. Based on the authorization information it is decided (4) whether the command signal is accepted (7) or rejected (8). Thus the transponder while keeping secret the data present in the transponder may be reliably deactivated (7) or reactivated.

  • Publication number: 20030076263
Abstract: An identifying assembly comprises an interrogator (1) having an interrogator antenna (2), a transponder (3) having a transponder antenna (4), and at least one auxiliary antenna system (5, 6) having at least one inductance, at least one capacitance and at least one resistance. The auxiliary antenna system (5, 6) is electromagnetically coupled with at least one of said transponder antenna (4) and interrogator antenna (2).

  • Publication number: 20020135478
Abstract: A transponder comprises a data memory and means for the contactless interaction with a base station. The transponder is brought (1) into an active field of the base station. Before the transponder is deactivated (7) by the base station by the transfer of a command signal (5), the authorisation of the base station for deactivation (7) is checked (4). For this purpose from the the base station before the transfer of the command signal (5) an admission signal which contains first admission information is transmitted (3) to the transponder and received by the transponder. The first admission information with second admission information stored in the data memory is processed by the transponder into authorisation information. On account of the thus obtained authorisation information in the transponder it is decided (4) whether the command signal is accepted (7) or rejected (8). Thus the transponder whilst keeping secret the data present in the transponder may be reliably deactivated (7) respectively reactivated.
