    Abstract: A method determines a link force within a power-steering mechanism of a vehicle, the method including a step (a) of determining an actuation force, which involves determining the actuation force that results from the assistance force exerted by the assistance motor and the driver force exerted by the driver of the vehicle on the steering mechanism; a step (b) of assessing dry friction; and a step (c) of calculating the link force, which has a summation sub-step which involves calculating an expression representing the link force, which uses the algebraic sum of the actuation force and the dry friction force, and a filtering sub-step which involves applying a low-pass filter in order to smooth the result of the expression when the expression is calculated upon a steering reversal of the steering mechanism.

    Abstract: A method for managing a power-steering motor configured to supply a force to assist the movement of a steering rack involves the steering rack being mounted such as to be movable between at least a first position and a second position in order to be able to change the steering angle of a steered wheel. The method includes the steps of defining a virtual end-of-travel threshold strictly between the first position and the second position. If the rack is detected as having crossed the virtual end-of-travel threshold in a predetermined crossing direction, simulating, by the power-steering motor, an end-of-travel stop by including in the assistance instruction a resistance instruction that simulates the effect of a mechanical stop, such as a spring-damper or a mass-spring-damper, preventing the actuator member from progressing further beyond the virtual end-of-travel threshold.

The torque or force set value is predetermined on the basis of the sideways acceleration of the vehicle, the acceleration in turn being predetermined mainly from an estimate of the force exerted on the rack, and preferably also predetermined by other methods, with the estimate being weighted among all of the obtained values. Said method is particularly useful for vehicles provided with electrical power steering.
