  • Patent number: 6851001
Abstract: The invention relates to an address remapper for a two wire serial bus. This remapper connects two sections of the bus, and is generally transparent, except when it receives an address; in this case, the remapper changes the address before transmitting it to the other section of the bus. This allows using stations having the same physical address on the same bus, and allows a greater number of stations to be used on the bus larger than that allowed under an address format with a fixed part.

  • Publication number: 20030128509
Abstract: A computer device cooling system controls a cooling fan (190) based on components in the computer device (100) and packaging of the computer device (100). A BIOS (125) of the computer device (100) identifies the components of the computer device (100), which include a microprocessor (110), memory configuration (120), peripheral cards (150) and the like. The BIOS (125) also identifies the packaging, which includes the housing, power supply, storage device and the like. Based on the identified packaging and the components, the BIOS (125) selects a threshold temperature and sets a reference voltage in a fan control circuit (180) associated. The reference voltage is associated with the threshold temperature. The fan control circuit (180) detects the temperature of the computer device (100) and outputs a voltage associated with the detected temperature.

  • Patent number: 6523071
Abstract: A process and apparatus for configuring a motherboard or host computer (3) to operate direct memory transfer mode, such as Ultra-DMA or Ultra-ATA, in accordance with the particular type of cable—IDE or 40-conductor cable being used. The 80-conductor cable has one particular conductor which is cut between the host connector and the device connectors and which corresponds to a terminal which the device releases when it receives a reset pulse. On the host side the terminal is internally connected to ground. A sampling of the logical state carried by the particular terminal is performed during a reset pulse transmitted to the device(s), in order to determine the type of cable, and configure the Ultra-DMA mode accordingly. The invention is well adapted for the 80-conductor detection by testing pin 34 carrying the PDIAG# signal.
