  • Patent number: 9352615
Abstract: A tread for a pneumatic tire in accordance with the present invention includes a tread base layer, a first tread cap layer radially outside of the tread base layer, a second tread cap layer radially outside of the tread base layer and both radially outside and axially adjacent the first tread cap layer, a third intermediate layer radially between the tread base layer and the first and second tread cap layers. The first tread cap layer has a protrusion extending radially inward and into the third intermediate layer more than a main body of the first tread cap layer and the second tread cap layer thereby allowing the first tread cap layer to provide the overall tread with enhanced performance characteristics after the main body of the first tread cap layer and the second tread cap layer have worn away.

  • Publication number: 20100132859
Abstract: The invention relates to a tire having tread of a cap/base configuration. The tread contains a thin electrically conductive rubber strip in the form of an extension of said tread base rubber layer which extends radially outward from the tread base rubber layer through an electrically resistive tread cap rubber layer to and including its running surface circumferentially around the tread to thereby provide a path of electrical conductivity through the tread cap layer to its running surface. The composite of the electrically non-conductive tread cap rubber layer and electrically conductive strip at the running surface of the tire tread have a similar abradability.

  • Patent number: 7140410
Abstract: An improved truck racing tire includes three belts and reduced tread and undertread thickness for weight reduction. An asymmetric shoulder design is provided and circumferential grooves having wear indicia therein at a preselected depth are incorporated into the tread to divide the tread into plural ribs. Notches are formed within the tread ribs in circumferential patterns of distribution at a depth equivalent to the depth of groove tread wear indicators. The tread is constructed of a relatively softer compound in the cap and a relatively harder compound in the base. The boundary between the cap and the base is at a depth corresponding to the notch depth and the wear indicators within the grooves to provide a further indication and confirmation of wear pattern and magnitude.

  • Patent number: 7001946
Abstract: This invention relates to tires having a tread of a natural rubber-rich rubber composition reinforced with a combination of rubber reinforcing carbon black and precipitated silica in which carbon black is in the majority of such reinforcement. In one aspect, the tread rubber has a balance of physical properties. Such balance of physical properties includes relatively high hardness and abrasion resistance properties balanced with an acceptable rebound property.
