  • Publication number: 20240156130
Abstract: A dried animal digest composition can include dried animal digest particles having an animal fat content of about 16 wt % or less and a moisture content of about 3 wt % or less. The dried animal digest particles in this example have a volume diameter particle size distribution where D10 is from about 20 ?m to about 50 ?m, D50 is from about 60 ?m to about 150 ?m, and D90 is from about 160 ?m to about 275 ?m. Furthermore, the dried animal digest composition is substantially devoid of silicon dioxide flow aid.

  • Publication number: 20240000110
Abstract: A method of making a wet food formulated for administration to a pet includes incorporating at least one of spinach or tomato into the wet food in an amount effective to enhance palatability of the wet food and/or reduce added sugar in the wet food. The method may include producing the wet food as a chunks-in-gravy composition and may include one or more of the following steps: (i) producing the gravy by a process comprising adding spinach to one or more other ingredients of the gravy; (ii) producing the gravy by a process comprising adding tomato to one or more other ingredients of the gravy, and preferably also incorporating free form cysteine into in the gravy; and (iii) producing the chunks by a process comprising adding both spinach and tomato to one or more other ingredients of the chunks. The method may include producing the wet food as a loaf composition, preferably by incorporating both spinach and tomato into the loaf composition.

  • Publication number: 20240000111
Abstract: A wet food is formulated for administration to a pet and contains an amount of at least one of spinach or tomato effective to enhance palatability of the wet food and/or reduce sugar in the wet food. The wet food may be a chunks-in-gravy composition which may have at least one of the following formulations: (i) at least a portion of the at least one of spinach or tomato includes spinach in the gravy; (ii) at least a portion of the at least one of spinach or tomato includes tomato in the gravy, and preferably the gravy further includes free form cysteine in addition to the tomato in the gravy; and (iii) at least a portion of the at least one of spinach or tomato includes spinach and tomato both included in the chunks. The wet food may be a loaf composition which may include both spinach and tomato.

  • Publication number: 20180220678
Abstract: Compositions and methods are provided to increase the palatability of dry pet foods. The compositions comprise sorbic acid and/or a salt thereof. The compositions and methods increase the palatability without loss of crunchiness of the dry kibbles over an extended time period. The sorbic acid and/or salt thereof can be used in the base composition of the dry pet food and/or in a coating on the dry pet food, and the sorbic acid and/or salt thereof can be used without affecting the product structure.

  • Publication number: 20160044937
Abstract: Methods for enhancing the palatability of liquid animal digests comprise hydrolyzing a substrate, such as animal viscera, and then adjusting the pH of the hydrolysate to at least 8.0, preferably at least 8.5, and more preferably at least 9.5. The resultant hydrolysate can be added to a food composition to form a pet food product, such as a dry pet food product. For example, the hydrolysate can be coated onto dry kibbles. The pH can prevent growth of food pathogens, for example Salmonella.
