  • Patent number: 7702036
Abstract: A solution for determining in a radio receiver a data sequence indicating transmission parameters of a frame before receiving the whole frame in the radio receiver in order to speed up processing of the data in the frame. According to the provided solution data is received in one or more time intervals, the data being part of a transmitted data sequence indicating transmission parameters of a frame. The possible data sequences are known to the radio receiver. The received data is compared with corresponding data of each known data sequence, and, on the basis of the comparison, the data sequence which is determined to be closest to the received data is selected. The transmission parameters of the frame are determined based on the selection.

  • Publication number: 20080080465
Abstract: It is provided a solution for selecting the length of a transmission time interval for high-speed packet radio communications between a base station and a mobile station. The length of the transmission time interval used in data transfer is selected on the basis of channel conditions between the mobile station and the base station. An average value for a channel quality metric representing the channel conditions is calculated and the calculated average value of the channel quality metric is associated with a pre-determined length of the transmission time interval. That length of the transmission time interval is then selected for the data transfer between the mobile station and the base station.

  • Patent number: 7349463
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for performing an interference estimation in a spread spectrum system using a plurality of spreading codes with different code lengths, wherein the interference estimate is obtained based on a variance estimate of despread samples integrated over a predetermined code period over which said plurality of spreading codes are orthogonal. • Publication number: 20060285580
Abstract: A solution for determining in a radio receiver a data sequence indicating transmission parameters and a spreading factor applied to a frame before receiving the whole frame in the radio receiver. According to the provided solution, the transmission parameters and the spreading factor are determined from received data of a partially received data sequence indicating the transmission parameters of the frame. The received portion of the data is despread with known possible spreading factors and the despread data is compared with corresponding data of known possible transmitted data sequences. Spreading factor-data sequence combination resulting in the best match with the received data is then determined to be the most probably transmitted data sequence. The results of comparison with respect to the spreading factor may be combined with another spreading factor determination procedure for more reliable detection of the correct spreading factor.

  • Publication number: 20060285611
Abstract: A solution for determining in a radio receiver a data sequence indicating transmission parameters of a frame before the whole frame has been received in the radio receiver in order to obtain additional pilot symbols. According to the provided solution data is received in one or more time intervals, the data being part of a transmitted data sequence indicating transmission parameters of a frame. The possible data sequences are known to the radio receiver. The received data is compared with corresponding data of each known data sequence, and, based on the comparison, the data sequence which is determined to be closest to the received data is selected. The received data of the data sequence indicating the transmission parameters of the frame is then used as pilot data for channel estimation purposes, for example.

  • Patent number: 6839326
Abstract: This invention teaches a method for use in a wideband CDMA telecommunications system wherein the base station (BS) utilizes transmit antenna diversity. The method enables the user equipment (UE) to perform a channel estimate for channels received from two antennas of the base station (BS), and includes steps of: (a) computing an estimated phase difference between a common pilot channel and a dedicated pilot channel received from one antenna of the two antennas; and (b) determining the channel estimate by rotating a common pilot channel estimate according to the estimated phase difference, where the phase difference is computed as a complex coefficient between the common pilot channel and the dedicated pilot channel. In a second aspect this invention teaches a method for use in a transmit antenna diversity system for enabling the UE to verify an antenna phase shift previously signaled by the UE to the BS.

  • Patent number: 6167079
Abstract: A method and receiver for identifying data transmission rate from a signal which has several transmission rate alternatives. The signal contains modulation symbols (201 to 206) which are formed as a vector and which are submatrices of a known, essentially orthogonal transform matrix selected on the basis of a combination of bits to be transmitted. A correlation is formed between a received modulation symbol (201 to 206) and the known modulation matrix, as a result of which correlation vectors (301 to 306) are produced, each correlation vector being composed of correlation values (311) which are used to detect the signal. By utilizing the correlation values (311) of one or more correlation vectors (301 to 306), an estimate (556) is formed for each data transmission rate representing the probability of the data transmission rate of the signal, and the estimates (556) are used to select the most probable data transmission rate to be used for detecting the signal.
