  • Patent number: 9455843
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and computer program products are provided in order to facilitate improved emergency call handling procedures and, in particular, to provide improved emergency call handling procedures relative to a connection re-establishment procedure. Emergency calls may therefore be handled in an efficient and expeditious fashion, even in instances in which a connection re-establishment procedure is ongoing at the time of the initiation of the emergency call or in instances in which a connection re-establishment procedure is commenced during an emergency call.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 19, 2010
Date of Patent: September 27, 2016
    Assignee: Nokia Technologies Oy
Inventors: Ilkka Yli-Tuomi, Jarkko Koskela, Pasi Laitinen, Juha Kinnunen

  • Patent number: 7639641
Abstract: A method operates, in at least one network control mode of operation (preferably NC2), for determining in a MS if a cell to which the MS is currently assigned has a first type of broadcast control channel (the PBCCH) and, if the cell does have the first type of broadcast control channel, for sending a PACKET MEASUREMENT REPORT message to the network for reporting on neighbour cells identified in a list received from the PBCCH. If the cell does not have the PBCCH, the method instead sends a PACKET MEASUREMENT REPORT message to the network for reporting on neighbour cells identified in a list received from a second type of broadcast control channel (BCCH). The type of list used by the MS is one of implicitly specified by the PACKET MEASUREMENT REPORT message, or is explicitly specified by the PACKET MEASUREMENT REPORT message.

  • Publication number: 20080146242
Abstract: A method is provided for a user equipment device to request an uplink transmission resource allocation from a base station. The method includes determining whether there is a need for the resource allocation, providing an uplink resource request to be combined with another message if the need for the resource allocation is present, combining the uplink resource request with the other message to form a combined message, and transmitting the combined message to the base station for requesting the resource allocation. The combined message may be a hybrid automatic repeat request message with an uplink resource request field. A user equipment device and a base station of a wireless communication network for performing the method are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20060199585
Abstract: A terminal device, network device and methods provide classmark information to an access network. The classmark information is added to a handover request message and signaled to the access network. Thereby, exchange of additional messages for keeping classmark information up-to-date is not required and it is ensured that the access network has the correct classmark information available in cases of terminal-initiated handovers.

  • Patent number: 6765891
Abstract: A General Packet Radio Service GPRS, Global System for Mobile Communications GSM/Universal Mobile Telecommunications System UMTS mobile station (100) in accordance with these teachings includes a radio frequency transceiver (210,220) for communication with a wireless network (10) and a controller (120,180) responsive to a receipt of information from the wireless network for reporting 3G cells when operating in a GSM dedicated mode on a cell that has a Packet Broadcast Control Channel PBCCH. The controller is enabled to report the 3G cells before receipt of the 3G Neighbor Cell list from the MEASUREMENT INFORMATION message. The information includes a 3G Neighbor Cell list received in a PACKET SYSTEM INFORMATION Type 3quater message on the PBCCH, and a 3G_BA_IND information element received in the PACKET SYSTEM INFORMATION Type 3quater message. The controller reports the 3G cells using a MEASUREMENT REPORT message that reflects a value of the received 3G_BA_IND information element.
