    Abstract: In a shoe construction, effective chemical bonding rather than nailing of a lower rubber heel to an inner heel base is enabled by the chemical composition and surface conditioning of the latter. The chemical composition is characterized by a mixture of a polyethylene, an ethylene vinyl copolymer, a filler, and a dessicant in particular proportions. The surface conditioning is characterized by an oxidizing flame treatment.
