  • Patent number: 5962861
Abstract: A device that automatically detects the strength of the paper as an indicator of paper weight and thickness. The detector includes a deflector acting on the paper or other sheet media and a deflection sensor that is responsive to the deflection of the paper. The deflector may be gravity or a mechanical device, or a combination of both. A mechanical deflector typically will include a contact member and a gate member. The contact member is biased against and deflects the sheet media advancing past the detector. The sensor is in operative communication with the gate member of the deflector. The deflector is operative to move between a first position, wherein the sensor outputs a first signal, and a second position, wherein the sensor outputs a second signal.

  • Patent number: 5939646
Abstract: A method and device that automatically measures and monitors the pick/feed motor torque as an indicator of paper weight, and controlling pertinent printer operations according to the measured torque. The method of the invention includes the steps of measuring the torque output of the motor during a pick/feed operation and controlling at least one printer operation according to the torque measurement. Preferably, the torque is measured by measuring the electrical current drawn by the pick/feed motor during the pick/feed operation.

  • Patent number: 4573009
Abstract: A printed circuit board "bed-of-nails" test fixture, of the type in which the circuit board is moved into electrical contact with the test probes, is provided with a means of ensuring accurate registration between the test probes and the corresponding test nodes on the board when contact is made. This registration is achieved by allowing the support surrounding the circuit board to bend by a hinge mechanism on all four sides, as the circuit board travels towards the probes. The substantially equal opposed forces on opposite edges of the board prevent lateral movement of the board during travel and thus ensure accurate registration.
