  • Patent number: 9838310
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for flushing of Customer Media Access Control (C-MAC) addresses in a PBB-EVPN network are disclosed. A first provider edge (PE) device can maintain a plurality of service instances configured on a first interface. The first PE device can detect at least one failed ethernet virtual circuit (EVC) on the first interface and identify at least one service instance from the plurality of service instances that is associated with the at least one failed EVC. The PE device can send, to a second PE device, a C-MAC flush notification message that identifies the at least one service instance and the message can cause the second PE device to remove C-MAC addresses corresponding to the at least one service instance and the B-MAC address for the first interface.

  • Publication number: 20170331720
Abstract: In one embodiment, a plurality of virtual private local area network services (VPLSs) are operated among a plurality of packet switching devices, with the plurality of VPLSs including a first VPLS and a different second VPLS. In response to a conversion declaration including a particular Service Instance VLAN ID (I-SID), the first VPLS corresponding to the particular I-SID is converted to a different type of virtual private network (VPN) service, while continuing to operate the different second VPLS which is not related to the particular I-SID. In one embodiment, the different type of VPN service is Provider Backbone Bridging Ethernet VPN (PBB-EVPN). In one embodiment, the conversion declaration is a Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Network Layer Reachability Information (NLRI) of Route Type 3 Inclusive Multicast Ethernet Tag (IMET) route.

  • Patent number: 9619315
Abstract: A method is provided for performing first line triage of network issues after receiving an indication of an error in a computer network. At least one software agent in a network element of the computer network is queried. The software agent(s) are embedded in the source code for processes running on the network element. Data from the software agent(s) are received in response to the query.

  • Publication number: 20160378606
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for fast convergence for virtual ethernet segments in EVPN and PBB-EVPN networks are disclosed. A first provider edge (PE) device can receive one or more advertising messages corresponding to one or more virtual ethernet segments, wherein each of the one or more advertising messages can include a port identifier. The first PE device maintains a table including the one or more virtual ethernet segments and the corresponding port identifier. The first PE device can receive a failure message from a second PE device that identifies a first port on the second PE device, and identifies, based on the table, at least one affected virtual ethernet segment that is associated with the first port. The first PE device can remove any routes that are associated with the at least one affected virtual ethernet segment and trigger mass designated-forwarding election for impacted virtual ethernet segments.

  • Patent number: 7391793
Abstract: A method of transmitting path overhead data between an ingress section and an egress section of a network element is described. A portion of the path overhead data is inserted into one or more predetermined bytes of the transport overhead of the data frame before transmission to the egress section. Consequently, the egress section does not require a pointer processor to retrieve the desired path overhead data. Elimination of the pointer processor results in reduced complexity and cost for the network element. The method can be applied to tandem connection monitoring (TCM) and other processes in which path overhead data are transferred.

  • Patent number: 7143161
Abstract: In a synchronous hierarchic network having multi-level tandem connection monitoring, all of the fields containing tandem connection monitoring information associated with trail terminations at a subject network element are processed in parallel at the subject network element. The network element extracts the tandem connection monitoring information from received signals independently for each of the tandem connection monitoring terminations occurring at the network element.

  • Patent number: 7062165
Abstract: A data regenerator for regenerating a data signal, including a convertor for converting a received data signal into a binary data signal in dependence on conversion parameters, an error corrector for correcting errors in the binary data signal based on error correction code contained in the binary data signal to produce a corrected binary data signal, and a performance monitor for comparing the corrected binary data signal with an uncorrected representation of the binary data signal to determine information about the relative number of logic“1”s and logic “0”s that have been corrected by the error corrector and output a feedback signal representative of the relative number, wherein the convertor adjusts at least some of the conversion parameters in dependance on the feedback signal.

  • Patent number: 6938187
Abstract: Devices and methods for processing data transmission units (DTUs) that are either entering or exiting a network. A device having multiple processor modules is provided along with a controller and an interface for the multiple processors. Each processor can work on any one of the connection levels and can independently process incoming or outgoing DTUS. Each processor module can perform the required calculations and data manipulation required for BIP 8 calculation, binning, and trail trace identifier validation. The controller receives the incoming or outgoing DTUS and assigns these DTUS to the appropriate processor module that is working on that connection. Connections can be added or dropped as required by the controller which also handles the assignment of the processor modules to the connections. Furthermore, also provided is an offset scheme for the numbering of the connection levels that avoids a zero connection level that may arise due to an AIS event.

  • Patent number: 6384634
Abstract: When a FULL or EMPTY state of a First In First Out memory (FIFO) in an elastic store is detected by a verification and recovery circuit, a recovery operation is initiated, i.e., writing to or reading from the FIFO is disabled for a predetermined number of respective (write or read) clock cycles. This predetermined number of respective clock cycles is chosen to meet an objective of a maximal distance between read and write addresses. At boot-up time, after waiting a number of clock cycles, a verification operation is performed on the boundaries (write vs. read addresses). The verification operation requires that the recovery operation described above be initiated if the read and write addresses are equal or adjacent. The verification operation then continues for a number of clock cycles after which the elastic store moves to steady state operation. In steady state operation, the recovery operation is initiated only if the read and write addresses are equal.
