  • Patent number: 8075710
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of soft magnetic composite components is provided including the steps of: die compacting a powder composition including a mixture of soft magnetic, iron or iron-based powder, core particles of which are surrounded by an electrically insulating, inorganic coating, and an organic lubricant in an amount of 0.05 to 1.5% by weight of the composition, the organic lubricant being free from metal and having a temperature of vaporization less than the decomposition temperature of the coating; ejecting the compacted body from the die; heating the compacted body in an inert atmosphere to a temperature above the vaporization temperature of the lubricant and below the decomposition temperature of the inorganic coating for removing the lubricant from the compacted body, and subjecting the body obtained after heating the compacted body in an inert atmosphere to heat treatment at a temperature between 300 and 600 in water vapor.

  • Patent number: 6485579
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for the preparation of soft magnetic composite products comprising the steps of providing particles of an iron based soft magnetic material with an electrically insulating layer; optionally mixing the dry powder with a lubricant; compacting the powder and heating the obtained component at an elevated temperature in the presence of water vapour. The invention also comprises the iron powder compact subjected to this treatment.

  • Patent number: 6348265
Abstract: The invention concerns a novel low oxygen powder comprising particles of a base powder consisting of essentially pure iron having an insulating oxygen- and phosphorus-containing barrier. The oxygen content of the new powder is at most 0.2% by weight higher than the oxygen content of the base powder, and the ratio O:P is between 30 and 1, preferably between 15 and 2 and most preferably between 10 and 3 as measured by the ESCA method. The invention also concerns a new method of preparing an iron-based powder comprising the steps of preparing a base powder consisting of a water atomized iron powder or a sponge iron powder, subjecting the mixture to treatment with a solution of phosphoric acid in an organic solvent and drying the obtained mixture, whereby the solution of phosphoric acid is sprayed on the base powder while being mixed.

  • Patent number: 5798177
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of compacting and heat-treating iron powders in order to obtain magnetic core components having improved soft magnetic properties. The iron powder consists of fine particles which are insulated by a thin layer having a low phosphorous content. According to the invention, the compacted iron powder is subjected to heat treatment at a temperature between 350.degree. and 550.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 5754936
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method, according to which powder compositions of iron-based particles are admixed with a thermoplastic material and a lubricant. The obtained mixture is compacted at a temperature below the glass-transition temperature or melting point of the thermoplastic resin and the compacted product is heated in order to cure the thermoplastic resin. Subsequently, the obtained compacted component is optionally heated to a temperature above the curing temperature.

  • Patent number: 5505760
Abstract: The invention relates to an iron-based powder composition which, in addition to a substantially non-alloyed Fe-powder, comprises Sn and P, optionally lubricant and at most 1.0% by weight of impurities. In the composition, Sn and P are present as an SnP-alloy in powder form, or else Sn is present in the form of a metallic powder and P is present in the form of a ferrophosphorous powder, the Sn-content, based on the total iron-based powder composition, being at least 4.5% by weight, and the individual particles, which contain Sn and P, being present as particles substantially separate from the particles in the non-alloyed Fe-powder. Finally, Sn and P may also be present as an SnP-alloy in powder form, and Sn may also be present as a metallic powder. This composition may optionally also contain P as a ferrophosphorous powder.
