The hand reel storage device (10) comprises a spool (28) to hold the holiday light string (12) when the elongate cord (14) is wound thereabout. A facility (30) on a first end of the spool (28) is for retaining the first end (22) of the elongate cord (14) with the plug (20) of the holiday light string (12) in place. A facility (32) on a second end of the spool (28) is for retaining the second end (26) of the elongate cord (14) with the outlet (24) of the holiday light string (12) in place.
