  • Publication number: 20150086732
Abstract: A combined receipt and label roll comprises a core, and a web having a longitudinally-extending axis and wound on the core along the axis. The web includes (i) a substrate having a front side and a back side opposite the front side, (ii) a thermally-sensitive coating disposed on the front side of the substrate, and (iii) a water-based microsphere adhesive disposed on the back side of the substrate along the web axis. The water-based microsphere adhesive comprises at least four separate adhesive patches. The at least four adhesive patches are both sized relative to each other and positioned relative to each other on the back side of the substrate such that additional tack desired can be obtained by increasing volume of the adhesive patches without having to increase coat weight of the adhesive patches.

  • Patent number: 8425723
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of efficiently maintaining or increasing brightness and whiteness of refined paper. In one aspect, the invention is directed to a method for substantially maintaining (or even increasing) brightness and/or whiteness of paper with increased pulp refining, the method including refining the pulp down to reduce the freeness at least about 100 CSF and adding a combination of an OBA and a carrier polymer to the paper surface in the size press in amounts sufficient to increase brightness and/or whiteness of the final paper. In another aspect, the invention is directed to a method of making paper from refined pulp that includes refining a cellulosic fiber suspension to reduce the freeness at least about 100 CSF and contacting the cellulosic fibers with at least one optical brightening agent (OBA) during or after the refining step prior to adding any additional wet end chemicals.

  • Publication number: 20110281042
Abstract: A method for making printing paper comprising preparing an ink receiving surface coating composition which comprises an optical brightening agent (OBA), polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) and a water soluble divalent salt, wherein the PVOH and OBA are added to the coating prior to the salt, and applying said coating composition onto at least one surface of said paper; and a surface coating composition which comprises a protected OBA and a water soluble divalent salt.

  • Patent number: 5598860
Abstract: A device for cleaning contact lenses comprises three liquid containers removably mounted one above another on a support. Each container has a liquid inlet and the two upper containers each have a liquid outlet, controlled by a valve in communication with the inlet of the container below it. In use, contact lenses are initially immersed in sterilizing solution in the middle container, and the upper container contains neutralizing solution. After a preset interval, a timed valve control device on the support operates the valves in sequence to discharge the sterilizing solution from the middle container into the lower container, and replace it with sterilizing solution from the upper container.
