Publication number: 20150298421Abstract: The invention provides composite components, structures and method for producing composite components. A composite component has a negative effect Poisson's ratio and comprises a first component and a second component. The first component and the second component extend longitudinally relative to an axis, the first component being provided around the second component through one or more turns which are spaced longitudinally relative to the axis. A variation in the tensile load on the first component causes the radial position of the second component relative to the axis to vary.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2014Publication date: October 22, 2015Inventors: Patrick Barry Hook, Kenneth E. Evans, Jonathan Paul Hannington, Claire Hartmann-Thompson, Timothy Rex Bunce

Patent number: 9084864Abstract: The present disclosure provides a universal breathing tube adaptor that can accept or otherwise accommodate a metered dose canister (MDC) having a variety of shapes, structures, sizes, and/or configurations. The present breathing tube adaptor includes a sidewall which defines a chamber. A conduit extends from the chamber through a floor of the device for discharging aerosolized medicament from the MDC. The sidewall includes opposing exposed edges which define a channel. The sidewall supports the MDC when it is invertingly inserted into the chamber. The channel permits structure of an MDC to extend radially outward through the channel and outside the chamber thereby enabling the valve stem of the MDC to engage the conduit.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2011Date of Patent: July 21, 2015Assignee: Barthel LLCInventors: Mark Schroeder, Timothy Patrick Barry, Evan James Joyce, Ryan Ross Childs, Ozair Iqbal Chaudhry

Patent number: 7984895Abstract: A jaw assembly for a clamp is provided that comprises a jaw body having a jaw rotatably mounted on the jaw body. A locking member is movable between a first position where the jaw is locked relative to the jaw body and a second position where the jaw is unlocked relative to the jaw body such that it can rotate relative thereto. A clamp is also provided that incorporates the jaw assembly. In the unlocked position the jaw can pivot such that it can orient itself relative to the workpiece and in the locked position the jaw is fixed such that it can clamp the edges of a workpiece. A method of operating a clamp is also set forth.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2008Date of Patent: July 26, 2011Assignee: Irwin Industrial Tool CompanyInventors: Ralf Strauss, Patrick Barry

Patent number: 7774452Abstract: The present invention provides a method, apparatus and computer instructions for scaling a user interface adaptively to an object discovery or display system with policy driven filtering. A number of filters are defined by the user in an initial setup. The filter includes a target number of discovered objects and a metric for filtering discovered objects. Once the initial setup is complete, the present invention automatically triggers or deactivates the filters and dynamically applies one or more filters based on the number of discovered objects and rules defined by the user. Resulting discovered objects are displayed in the user interface to the user.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2008Date of Patent: August 10, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Patrick A. Barry, Heather J. Hartman, Joshua H. Levy, Shelley Saxena

Patent number: 7590917Abstract: An interleaver parameter generator circuit used to calculate and generate on an as needed basis interleaver parameters for interleaving blocks of information of varying lengths in accordance with a pseudorandom pattern defined by the 3GPP standard. The interleaver parameter generator circuit calculates and generates the defined interleaver parameters based on an input parameter that represents the length of the block of information to be interleaved. At least one of the defined parameters is calculated and generated using a decomposed form of its definition. The interleaver parameter generator circuit uses well known circuit blocks such as multipliers, subtractors, Compare-and-Select circuits and other circuits to calculate and generate the defined parameters.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2003Date of Patent: September 15, 2009Assignee: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.Inventors: Mark Patrick Barry, Benjamin John Widdup

Publication number: 20090100361Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems and methods for providing a framework for providing one or more applications to a user set top device. The method according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises providing a minimized state wherein installed applications are displayed as one or more minimized widgets on an output device in communication with to the user device wherein the list of the installed applications comprises one or more indications of passively updated content associated with the installed applications. In response to the selection of a minimized widget command, a widget state is provided wherein a portion of the output device is allocated for the display of additional widget content in response to the selection of a minimized widget. In response to a remote control command, a full-screen state is provided wherein full-screen version of the minimized widget may be displayed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2008Publication date: April 16, 2009Inventors: Jean-Pierre Abello, Roger Urrabazo, Marco Boerries, Patrick Barry
