    Abstract: A thermoplastic resin composition, containing a thermoplastic resin, comprising at least one aromatic polycarbonate resin, and a flame-retarding amount of an organophosphorus flame retardant compound, wherein any acids initially present in the compound and any acid-generating impurities initially present in the compound do not exceed a level at which the combined amount of any such acids and any acids that may be generated under hydrolytic conditions from any such acid generating impurities is equivalent to a titratable acid level of less than about 1.0 milligram of potassium hydroxide per gram of the organophosphorus compound.

    Abstract: The invention relates to compositions comprising an organoclay and polyphenylene ether resin and blends containing polyphenylene ether resin. In a preferred embodiment, the compositions exhibit physical properties that are enhanced over compositions containing clay of the prior art. The invention also relates to methods to enhance the ductility of thermoplastic compositions as compared to compositions containing clay of the prior art. The invention also relates to articles made from the compositions.

    Abstract: A method for determining flame retardance of polymer compositions includes subjecting a plurality of specimens of a polymer composition to a flame test and performing a statistical analysis of the data obtained. The statistical analysis includes determining the probability of at least one possible outcome of the flame test. The probability of possible outcomes provides a measure of the flame retardance of the polymer composition. A preferred flame test is the UL-94 flame test.
