Patent number: 12199305Abstract: An aircraft includes a battery pack mounted inside the aircraft, a vent coupled between the battery pack and a surface of the aircraft to at least partly define a vent path between the battery pack and the surface of the aircraft, and a burst membrane located in the vent path. The vent may be coupled to a rear upper portion of a wing or to an outboard side of a nacelle. The aircraft may also include a flexible coupling between the vent and the surface of the aircraft. The aircraft may also include a fairing over a vent outlet to provide a smooth surface for the vent outlet. The battery pack may include battery modules and an enclosure, the battery modules and the enclosure defining paths along which discharge from a thermal event can flow towards the vent.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2021Date of Patent: January 14, 2025Assignee: Joby Aero, Inc.Inventors: Ernest Villanueva, Austin Lawrence Newman, Michael Patrick Tucker, Robert Thodal, Christopher Cochran, Matthew Clyde Cusimano, Edward Stilson, Ahsan Mehmood, Edward Thomas Sweet

Patent number: 6457994Abstract: A media connector assembly with an extended electrical contact capable of non-destructive deflection when various media plugs are placed therein that do not accommodate each contact pin within the media connector. The media connector includes a platform with an arched mid-portion for enlarging the radius of deflection of the contact pins such that the contact pins deflect when a media connector is placed therein at a position further from the aperture receiving the media connector. The arch maintains curved support for the deflected contact pin and assists in the positive contact force applied by the contact pin to the contact of the media plug.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2001Date of Patent: October 1, 2002Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: Thomas A. Johnson, Patrick A. Tucker, Steven Loforte, David Oliphant

Patent number: 6320883Abstract: A method and apparatus for discerning between unknown but standardized ISDN interfaces, such as the U and S/T reference points, and automatically selecting compatible routing for the respective interface to compatible ISDN equipment. An unknown reference point supported by an ISDN service provider is interfaced with a reference adaptor comprised of an interface selection circuit which discerns the standardized form of the unknown reference point presented by the service provider and appropriately switches a relay means for routing the unknown interface reference point to ISDN equipment, either directly or indirectly through a transformation NT-1 device. Protection circuitry prevents signals from one reference interface from damaging sensitive circuitry of another reference interface.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1997Date of Patent: November 20, 2001Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: Eric P. Mitchell, Connie D. York, Patrick A. Tucker

Patent number: 6239977Abstract: A PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) modem card includes a PCB (printed circuit board) sealed in a slender enclosure, typically the size of a credit card. The PCB contains a hole for receiving a drop-in electronic component, such as a resetting fuse. The fuse comprises a block of positive-temperature-coefficient material sandwiched between a pair of parallel contacts. Each contact includes a tab for surface mounting the fuse to an array of conductive films located on the surface of the PCB. The tabs lie in a common plane and in a plane parallel to the planes of the contacts.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1999Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: Tim Urry Price, Patrick A. Patent number: 6001033Abstract: A putting aid comprising two arms converging to an apex such that an acute angle is formed therebetween is herein described. The two arms have inner faces that include markings, such as a center stripe opposite the apex, that act to improve the visibility of the putting aid. Specifically, the putting aid is arranged to be positioned on a putting green such that the golf cup is between the two arms and the center stripe is approximately four inches behind the golf cup. The putting aid is then oriented such that the apex is opposite the direction of putting relative to the golf cup. The golfer then uses the center stripe as a target when aiming for the golf cup. As a result of this arrangement, the location of the golf cup is more visible and a golfer aiming for the center stripe will tend to putt harder, that is, so that the putt will travel approximately four inches further. The end result is a stronger and more accurate putt.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1998Date of Patent: December 14, 1999Inventor: Daniel Patrick Tucker
