Patent number: 7591592Abstract: A journal for coupling a wheel to an axle includes a main body portion and a separate locking element mounted to the main body portion. The locking element includes a locking arm and an integral resilient leaf spring. The locking element is pivotable about a pivot axis A-A extending through a pair of pivot extensions between a release position and a secured position. In the release position, the axle is movable into and out of a reception space within the main body portion. In this release position, the leaf spring bears against the main body portion to bias the locking arm towards the secured position. In the secured position, the locking arm engages with a groove in the axle to secure the axle in position in the reception space.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2005Date of Patent: September 22, 2009Assignee: Menza LimitedInventors: Patrick Beirne, Thomas Mullen

Publication number: 20090058176Abstract: A single piece blow-moulded plastics wheel 1 for a trash cart 6 comprises an inner hub part 2, an outer rolling part 3, and spoke parts 4. The hub part 2 has a bore 5 extending therethrough. A spacer section 8 projects outwardly from one side of the hub part 2 and a recess 15 on the opposite side. The spacer section 8 of one wheel is engageable in the recess 15 of another similar wheel for stacking the wheels during transportation and storage.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 28, 2008Publication date: March 5, 2009Inventors: Patrick Beirne, Thomas Mullen

Publication number: 20050254738Abstract: A journal (100) for coupling a wheel to an axle (3) comprises a main body portion (10) and a separate locking element (11) mounted to the main body portion (10). The locking element (11) comprises a locking arm (20) and an integral resilient leaf spring (101). The locking element (11) is pivotable about a pivot axis A-A extending through a pair of pivot extensions (22) between a release position and a secured position. In the release position, the axle (3) is movable into and out of a reception space within the main body portion (10). In this release position, the leaf spring (101) bears against the main body portion (10) to bias the locking arm (20) towards the secured position. In the secured position, the locking arm (20) engages with a groove in the axle (3) to secure the axle (3) in position in the reception space.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2005Publication date: November 17, 2005Inventors: Patrick Beirne, Thomas Mullen

Patent number: 6938964Abstract: A journal for coupling a wheel to an axle is configured to be mounted in a bore of the wheel. The journal defines a reception space for receiving an axle. A locking element is pivotally mounted on the journal from a release position in which the axle is removable from the reception space and secured position in which a tooth of the locking element is engaged with a groove in the axle. When the tooth of the locking element is engaged in the groove withdrawal of the axle is prevented.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2002Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Assignee: Menza LimitedInventors: Nicholas Flood, Patrick Beirne, Thomas Mullen

Patent number: 6910742Abstract: A journal for coupling a wheel to an axle has a main tubular body portion with a reception space for the axle and a separate locking element. The locking element is mounted in a cradle for pivotal movement about a pivot axis from a release position in which the axle is removable from the reception space to a position in which the axle is secured in position is the reception space. A biasing member such as a magnet, a spring or a tube of resilient material biases the locking element into the secured position.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2002Date of Patent: June 28, 2005Assignee: Menza LimitedInventors: Nicholas Flood, Patrick Beirne, Thomas Mullen

Publication number: 20030234572Abstract: A journal 6 for coupling a wheel 1 to an axle 5 has a main tubular body portion 14 with a reception space 100 for the axle 5 and a separate locking element 10. The locking element 10 is mounted in a cradle 21 for pivotal movement about a pivot axis from a release position in which the axle 5 is removable from the reception space 100 to position in which the axle 5 is secured in position in the reception space 100. A biassing member such as a magnet 60, a spring 37 or a tube 50 of resilient material biases the locking element 10 into the secured position.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 12, 2002Publication date: December 25, 2003Inventors: Nicholas Flood, Patrick Beirne, Thomas Mullen

Publication number: 20030117009Abstract: A journal 6 for coupling a wheel 1 to an axle 5 is configured to be mounted in a bore 4 of the wheel 1. The journal 6 defines a reception space 100 for receiving an axle 5. A locking element 10 is pivotally mounted on the journal 6 from a release position in which the axle 5 is removable from the reception space 100 and secured position in which a tooth 35 of the locking element 10 is engaged with a groove 36 in the axle 5. When the tooth 35 of the locking element 10 is engaged in the groove 36 withdrawal of the axle is prevented.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 12, 2002Publication date: June 26, 2003Inventors: Nicholas Flood, Patrick Beirne, Thomas Mullen

Patent number: 5935493Abstract: In a method of blow moulding, a parison is extruded by pushing a hollow tube of hot thermoplastic material through a die gap 2 between a mandrel 3 and die 1. An exit compression ring 5 is formed on the mandrel 3 adjacent to the die exit 2. The ring acts as a flow enhancer to ensure free flow of the thermoplastic material. Outer surfaces of the die 1 and mandrel 3 may be provided with release strips 9, 10 to prevent the parison becoming stuck to the die face.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1996Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Menza LimitedInventors: Nicholas Gerard Flood, Patrick Beirne

Patent number: 5863489Abstract: A parison 4 of hot thermoplastics material is delivered into a mould 1 comprising two mould halves 2, 3 which are closed towards one another. A stress force is applied to the wall of the parison 4 either by a projection 5 extending from one of the mould halves 3 and/or by blowing air at a low pressure against the parison 4 through a blow pin 10. The parison 4 is then penetrated by the blow pin and high pressure air is blown through the blow pin 10 to inflate the parison 4 against the mould halves 2, 3. The blow pin 10 is withdrawn and a formed article such as a case is released from the mould after a preset time.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1996Date of Patent: January 26, 1999Assignee: Menza LimitedInventors: Nicholas Flood, Patrick Beirne
