  • Publication number: 20100055236
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for making beer which comprises, in particular, a step of cooking or boiling a wort, and which is characterized in that, in one or more steps which are carried out before said step of cooking or boiling the wort, a reducing gas or mixture of reducing gases is injected into the medium of the step(s) under consideration, so as to lower the oxido-reduction potential of the medium under consideration to a level below what it is when the medium has simply been degassed using a neutral gas.

  • Publication number: 20040081639
Abstract: A method for preventing or treating cereal contamination or fungi producing mold toxins by applying a micro-organism of the Geotrichum candidum family.

  • Patent number: 5955070
Abstract: The invention provides micro-organism strains of the Geotrichum candidum family, obtainable by selecting and cloning natural strains of the micro-organism, and which have the following properties: a lipase activity of less than 2.5.multidot.10.sup.-7 nKat per cell; a substantially complete inhibition of undesirable flora developing during malting; and a lack of mutagenic activity as measured by the Ames test.

  • Patent number: 5904921
Abstract: Germinated plant seeds are disclosed as a source of superoxide dismutase (SOD). The SOD is stabilized to temperatures of at least 45.degree. C. when combined in a stabilizing composition comprising a peroxidase, a peroxidase cofactor, and a hydrophilic substance selected from sugars and polyols of less than 2,000 g/mole in molecular mass. The stabilized SOD compositions can be used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical or food compositions. Methods of treating mammals against the harmful effects of free radicals and against inflammation are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5342772
Abstract: The fluorocarbon surface of a solid or liquid support is activated with a highly fluorinated isocyanate-modified ligand or with a reactive poly(fluoroalkyl) sugar reagent containing a polyhydroxy sugar to which are attached a plurality of fluoroalkyl anchor groups, a reactive group and optionally a spacer. The activated support has application in separation of biomolecules, immobilization of biomolecules, heterogeneous diagnostic assays, and biosensors. An enzyme or other biomolecule is immobilized by contacting the activated support surface with the enzyme in the presence of a surfactant. The surfactant is preferably a neutral surfactant such as a fluoroalkyl-polyoxyethylene.
