  • Patent number: 7792365
Abstract: A method of generating an image comprising a position identifying pattern 6 and content 7 comprises the steps of: defining criteria relating to a region where the content and the pattern are superimposed, the criteria determining whether the pattern 6 will be distinguishable over the content 7 when applied to a product; identifying such a region 7 in the image; and selecting a characteristic of the pattern or the content in the region on the basis of the criteria, such that the image in the region meets the criteria.

  • Patent number: 7269531
Abstract: The invention provides for a method and apparatus for improving error-correction in non-contact optical position sensing. The primary application is in page-based data input contexts such as form-filling and paper-based web interfaces and GUIs. The invention utilises a combined measurement of the relative movement of a device in relation to a fixed surface and at least one measurement of the absolute position of the device. Absolute measurement of position is preferably carried out using a position-encoded glyph bed embedded on the fixed surface. Based on the at least single absolute measurement, the relative measurement of the devices movement, or stroke, is normalised to the properly measure absolute position and thus substantial interruptions in the detection of the absolute stroke position can be tolerated and corrected for.

  • Patent number: 6962450
Abstract: A method of generating an image comprising a position identifying pattern and a content feature comprises the steps of: generating the pattern and the content feature each as a plurality of graphical elements, and superimposing the content feature and the pattern. The content elements are smaller than the pattern elements in at least one dimension.

  • Publication number: 20050099409
Abstract: A digital pen and paper system comprises a digital pen adapted to acquire information from a position-determining pattern printed on a carrier and a base station which is arranged to receive information from the pen and to send the information across a telecommunications network to a remote device, the base station having a dedicated processor and program instructions adapted to receive information from the pen. The base station comprises a self-contained unit which includes a modem for connection to a remote device across a land-based telecommunications network. It may be configured remotely from across the network by the same remote device to which it will send pen information.

  • Publication number: 20040150845
Abstract: Digitally stored images are recorded and stored and transferred to a printer. The printer generates a proof-sheet including a graphical representation of at least one of the images and plural image selection and/or image manipulation user designation areas. The proof-sheet contains information about physical spatial locations on the proof-sheet. To manipulate the images, a user applies indicia to at least one user designation area on the proof-sheet using a pen that records the indicia spatial location on the proof-sheet. The indicia spatial locations are transmitted to the printer that translates the indicia spatial location into printing and/or image manipulation commands. The images are then processed and printed based on the user commands.

  • Publication number: 20040109034
Abstract: A hybrid printing device for printing on a surface, the device comprising a printing means adapted to print on the surface and a sensing means adapted to sense the position of the printing device in relation to positioning indicia located on the surface wherein the printing means is further adapted to be responsive to the detected position of the device in relation to the detected position. The device operates by detecting the position whereby a print control means responds and signals to the printing head to function to build the image on the printing surface. The invention preferably uses optical glyphs pre-printed on the page to provide position information to the sensing means. The device may operate as a peripheral where the print head is controlled in response to the detected position. Alternatively, the print head may be triggered by print control data itself embedded in the optically detected glyph information.
