Abstract: A data switch uses indirect memory addressing to perform switching of digital data streams in a network. Incoming data is organized into timeslots. Each timeslot's data is stored into a predefined location in buffer memory. Indirect addressing is implemented in a crosspoint address table. The addresses stored in the crosspoint address table are used to access locations in the buffer memory so that portions of words stored in the buffer memory can be combined to form an output word destined for a predetermined timeslot.
