  • Publication number: 20080117006
Abstract: A switching device has a housing and at least one contact point, which comprises a fixed contact piece and a moveable contact piece, and having a thermal and magnetic release, which comprises a tripping coil and a tripping armature. The tripping armature comprises at least two operatively connected tripping armature parts. The first tripping armature part is formed from a first material having a magnetic shape memory effect. The second tripping armature part is formed from a bimetallic strip or from a material having a thermal shape memory effect or from a material having a combined thermal and magnetic shape memory effect. The tripping armature, both under the influence of the magnetic field of the tripping coil in the event of a short-circuit current and under the influence of an increase in temperature brought about by overcurrent, can be deformed and, as a result, the contact point can be caused to open.

  • Patent number: 6691019
Abstract: A method for controlling distortion of a turbine case (“case”) includes measuring a temperature distribution for the case that includes thermal gradients. The method further includes modeling thermal stresses on the case induced by the thermal gradients, calculating an out of roundness index (“index”) resulting from the thermal stresses, and comparing the index with at least one distortion limit to determine whether the case has a satisfactory or an unsatisfactory index. The temperature distribution is controlled for an unsatisfactory index to produce the satisfactory index. A system for controlling distortion of the turbine case includes a thermal measurement system, for measuring the temperature distribution, and a computer configured for modeling the thermal stresses, calculating and comparing the index with the distortion limit, and controlling the temperature distribution for an unsatisfactory index to produce the satisfactory index.

  • Patent number: 6646529
Abstract: An electromagnetic release drive, particularly suitable for a residual current circuit breaker, includes a plunger loaded by a spring in a release direction, a permanent magnet configuration, a coil and a yoke. The coil generates in the yoke a magnetic flux opposed to the permanent magnet configuration when the coil is driven or released such that the spring force overcomes the attraction force of the permanent magnet configuration. The permanent magnet configuration and the pole shoe conducting the magnetic flux to the plunger are associated with the yoke and the plunger such that, in a first position, the plunger is located in the active range of the permanent magnet configuration and of the pole shoe and, in a second position, is located at least partly in the active range of the pole shoe.
