Publication number: 20240118068Abstract: Provided herein are various embodiments of an improved device for accurate measurement along a desired axis that is tolerant to off axis movement and other environmental factors. The measurement relies on a conversion from linear displacement of a tensile element in a pulley system which is monitored by a low power rotational encoder. The orientation and mechanical architecture of the device is set to reduce the impact of off-axis movement or forces on the measurement of interest. A computing unit determines the distance measurement by determining the state of rotation in the system in the context of the system's specific design, without the need to constantly monitor the sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2023Publication date: April 11, 2024Inventors: Thomas Lee SPENCER, Patrick DOYLE, Jay Robert BRENNER

Patent number: 11032102Abstract: Various embodiments that pertain to a bridge between networks. There can be a desire for a first communication network to share messages with a second communication network. However, these networks can individually have their own security measures that make direct network-to-network communication difficult if not impossible. Therefore, a bridge can be created that allows for communication between the networks.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2019Date of Patent: June 8, 2021Assignee: The Government of the United States, as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Robert DiCarlo, Patrick Doyle, Matthew Lazzaro, William Toth, Rex Johnson

Patent number: 9448778Abstract: A computer-implemented method, system, and computer program product for performing object collocation on a computer system are provided. The method includes analyzing a sequence of computer instructions for object allocations and uses of the allocated objects. The method further includes creating an allocation interference graph of object allocation nodes with edges indicating pairs of allocations to be omitted from collocation. The method also includes coloring the allocation interference graph such that adjacent nodes are assigned different colors, and creating an object allocation at a program point prior to allocations of a selected color from the allocation interference graph. The method additionally includes storing an address associated with the created object allocation in a collocation pointer, and replacing a use of each allocation of the selected color with a use of the collocation pointer to collocate multiple objects.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2014Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Patrick Doyle, Pramod Ramarao, Vijay Sundaresan

Patent number: 9285549Abstract: A connector includes a main body, and a pair of sockets. Each socket includes a pair of opposed resilient walls in the overall configuration of a split tube. The connector also includes a transversely sliding clamp with two tapered slots, located so that one of the sockets passes through each slot. After fiber terminations are pushed into the sockets through the clamp slots, the clamp is slid in a plane across the socket axes so that the narrower ends of the slots engage the opposed split tube resilient walls of each socket. This squeezes each socket so that the opposed split tube resilient walls press against the associated fiber termination and retains it in place. The sockets may have guide slots for guiding clamp movement. The clamp moves in a translational movement, but in another example the clamp rotates in the lateral plane to squeeze the sockets.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2012Date of Patent: March 15, 2016Assignee: FIRECOMMS LIMITEDInventors: Patrick Doyle, Thomas Moriarty

Patent number: 8148159Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described for achieving uniform stretching of polynucleotides in hybrid electrophoretic-gel, micro-constricting microfluidic channels. Polynucleotides in normally relaxed configurations are driven by an electric field along a microfluidic channel. The polynucleotides thread through a porous gel barrier formed in the channel and extend into a constriction where an electric field gradient exists. The combined action of the gel and field gradient acts to extend the polynucleotide configuration fully for direct linear analysis of the molecule.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2007Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventors: Greg Randall, Patrick Doyle
