  • Patent number: 4583908
Abstract: A mobile device for handling material of various types including a frame having an endless track mounted on each side thereof for providing mobility to the frame. A source of power in the form of an internal combustion engine is mounted directly on the frame. A turntable is rotatably mounted on the frame with a boom pivotally connected at its lower end to the turntable at a point spaced from the rotating axis of the turntable for pivotal movement of the boom in a vertical plane over the turntable by means of a hydraulic ram connected at its lower end to the turntable at a point intermediate the rotating axis of the turntable and the pivotal connection of the lower end of the boom with the upper end of the ram connected to the boom. The turntable is mounted on the frame for pivotal movement of the same with the boom thereon transversely to each side of the device.

  • Patent number: 4565486
Abstract: A device for handling material is shown according to the teachings of the present invention in its preferred form as a mobile tree felling and handling device. In its preferred form, the device includes a mid-frame pivotally mounted to the device frame about a pivot axis which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the device. The mid-frame is pivoted about the mid-frame axis in the preferred embodiment by first and second hydraulic rams which extend from the back of the mid-frame to the device frame. Further, the device in the preferred embodiment also includes a turntable pivotally mounted to the mid-frame about an axis which is generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the device and which is generally midway between the sides of the mid-frame. The turntable is pivoted about the axis between the turntable and the mid-frame by trunion mounted cylinders mounted on opposite sides of the pivot axis which allow a very compact design while allowing a high degree of tilt.

  • Patent number: 4046179
Abstract: A cross-cut shear for trees including a support. A pair of cutting blades each having an arcuate cutting edge terminating in a straight cutting edge tangential to the arcuate cutting edge, the blades pivotally mounted on the support for pivotal and guided movement to bring the blades toward one another to cause the arcuate edges to first enter a tree followed by the straight edges together with means for pivoting the blades.
