  • Publication number: 20140044956
Abstract: A waterproofing membrane system comprising a mixture of dry rubber granules with dry expansive material granules, the mixture adhered to a membrane in a layer. The rubber particles act to limit expansion of the expansive granules in each layer when the membrane is introduced to a source of moisture. Making an expansive sheet waterproofing system comprises determining a desired waterproofing and expansion need by mixing of the rubber granules with dry expansive granules and applying the mixture as a layer to a substrate having an adhesive coating thereon. The coating resulting in the rubber particles limiting expansion of the expansive granules when exposing the prepared membrane to a source of moisture. The membrane retains flexibility and waterproofing, durability and strength of the membrane is increased.

  • Patent number: 5376429
Abstract: A laminated waterstop strip used in the construction of buildings that is placed on the top of a surface of a hardened concrete layer of footing, prior to pouring of an additional layer, and is made to have a number of granular layers held with adhesive between each of the layers, and having in the range of 30 to 60 individual granular layers so that the waterstop has a height of in the range of one-half to one inch. The waterstop strip is made up of bentonite granules, preferably, which are adhered to a fabric layer for support, an adhered layer on the exterior of the fabric layer, with a quick release paper on the exterior of the fabric layer. A light weight, synthetic fiber mesh for providing weather resistance, tear resistance, and retention properties is placed over the upper layer of particles.

  • Patent number: 5091234
Abstract: A water barrier sheet that is a composite of a membrane of impervious material, such as high density polyethylene, a layer of particles which are capable of swelling in presence of a liquid, such as sodium montmorillonite, or modified sodium montmorillonite that is organophilic held on the membrane, and an overlying sheet of water permeable material that is caused to adhere to the particulate layer. The water permeable material layer is a cloth sheet that tends to keep the layer of particulate material together and protects the particles from mechanical abrasion, and yet permits liquids to penetrate into the layer of particulates for waterproofing action.

  • Patent number: 5079088
Abstract: A waterproof sheet used to waterproof structures has a single layer of non-degradable, water impermeable polymeric membrane that has layers of particles of non-hydrated sodium montmorillonite (sodium bentonite) adhering to the membrane in a uniform layered thickness. The layers of particles of sodium montmorillonite spaced from the membrane adhere to each other, with a coating material (adhesive) that is designed to provide the necessary performance for waterproofing. A water soluble dye is provided in the layer of particles so if a tear occurs in the impermeable membrane and water contacts the particles, the dye will stain the membrane and mark the location of the tear.

  • Patent number: 4693923
Abstract: A waterproofing sheet used to waterproof structures above and below grade has a single layer of non-degradable, water impermeable polymeric membrane that has layers of particles of non-hydrated sodium montmorillonite (sodium bentonite) adhering to the membrane in a uniform layered thickness. The layers of particles of sodium montmorillonite spaced from the membrane adhere to each other, with a coating material (adhesive) that is designed to provide the necessary performance for waterproofing under a high water head (hydrostatic pressure). The material is in sectioned sheet or roll form and can be easily applied on the job.
