  • Publication number: 20220178343
Abstract: A towing apparatus has a spine with multiple generally parallel spine members extending in a longitudinal direction and having a length of at least 100 m, and with a leading end and a trailing end. A series of blades are mounted to the spine by couplers which allow the blade to rotate about an axis substantially transverse to the longitudinal direction, each blade having a first surface facing generally in the trailing end direction and a second surface facing generally in the leading end direction. Restraints prevent rotation of each blade by more than a pre-set amount towards the leading end, so that impingement of a wave on the first surface applies a force to the apparatus in the leading end direction. A pair of the towing apparatus' may be arranged to connect to a floating collector with a beach shape to collect floating debris on the sea surface, ridges helping to retain the debris on the slope until it is washed up into a channel.

  • Patent number: 10408187
Abstract: A wave energy converter has blades (54, 56, 57, 59) on frames (51, 52) rotating about a pivot joint (53) on a structure (4, 52, 502, 505, 86). There is reciprocating rotary motion of the frame with respect to the structure, providing reciprocating rotary input power to a mechanism (73, 94, 98). The mechanism (98) may be arranged so that the reciprocating input power is transferred to uni-directional power via pulleys (101, 106) and sprag clutches (102, 107).

  • Publication number: 20150320158
Abstract: The present invention relates to jewelry or a metal composition containing an additive or personalizing substance such as a nucleic acid, sand or other suitable component intended to have personal significance to the wearer. A nucleic acid personalizing substance may comprise human DNA of amplified repeat sequences. The jewelry may be made by using a cold or warm metallurgical technique. Prior to being integrated into the article of jewelry, the additive may be encapsulated to provide a protective layer around the personalizing substance. The protective layer can prevent degradation of the personalizing substance during manufacture of the article of jewelry. The personalizing substance can also be added to a polymer solution which is cast to form a continuous matrix of polymer including the personalizing substance.

  • Publication number: 20120247589
Abstract: An air and water intake (1) for a wave energy converter has a substantially rigid hollow body (20) having a mouth (4, 5) for receiving water from the upper parts of the waves and air, and an outlet for delivering the water and air to a wave energy converter. Buoyancy (10) causes the intake to receive into the mouth skimmed-off water from near the top of a wave, and to tilt so that water flows downwardly within the body, gaining velocity. There is a connector (15) on an underside of the body for connection to an anchor for pitching of the intake about a pitching axis. The centre of buoyancy axis (41) is forwardly of the pitching axis (40) such that water primarily from the top of a wave and slightly forwardly of a wave crest is received.

  • Publication number: 20110116942
Abstract: A wave energy harnessing converter (1) has a tube (3) which floats on the sea. A water inlet (2) delivers water to the tube, and an air inlet (2) delivers air to the tube (3). The tube has sufficient buoyancy and flexibility to float on the water and conform to the shape of waves when the tube extends substantially in the direction of travel of the waves, causing water in the tube to be conveyed from the inlet and to be pressurised and the air to be compressed in a series of moving air pockets. The tube is reinforced to minimise energy losses through distortion or elongation. A converter output section (10) for receiving water and compressed air from the tube (3) for providing energy.

  • Publication number: 20100025496
Abstract: Apparatus (1) for watering plants in a hanging basket or window box at a relatively high level comprises a container (10) for water pivotally carried at a distal end (6) of a shaft (4). A cap (27) secured to a discharge outlet (12) is provided with a plurality of discharge bores (30) extending therethrough for facilitating discharge of water in a sprinkle type spray from the container (10). A pivot mounting (14) having a first pivot pin (18) pivotally couples the container (10) to a shaft (4) so that the container (10) is pivotal from a first orientation illustrated in FIG. 7 inhibiting discharge of water from the container (10) to a second orientation illustrated in FIG. 8 for discharging water through the discharge outlet (12). The pivot mounting (14) is located on the container (10) relative to the centre of gravity (32) thereof so that as the shaft (4) is rotated through 180° from the orientation illustrated in FIG. 7 to that illustrated in FIG.

  • Patent number: 5699221
Abstract: A support bracket for connecting an auxiliary electrical unit to an in situ unit, comprising a mounting means for locating between the in situ unit and an outlet box (hereinafter referred to as a patress box) or a wall to which the in situ unit is originally mounted, and for mounting the in situ unit to the patress box or wall. A support means extends from the mounting means for supporting the auxiliary unit. A cable accommodating means is provided for accommodating a cable from the patress box or wall through the support bracket to the in situ unit. One of the cable accommodating means and the mounting means is adapted to permit location of the mounting means between the in situ unit and the patress box or wall, and for permitting mounting of the in situ unit on the mounting means without disconnection of the cable from the in situ unit. A communicating means is provided for accommodating an electrical wire from the in situ unit to the auxiliary unit.
