Abstract: Capacity of a database system and/or a computing system that includes a database can be effectively changed from a current computing capacity to another computing capacity. This can be achieved by causing usage capacity of at least one of resource to be changed when the database is active. By way of example, capacity of a database system can be regulated by delaying the execution of the database work based on a target capacity. As a result, database work can take relatively longer to complete when the capacity of a database is effectively regulated to be below its full capacity. In effect, a portion of available capacity (excess capacity) can be made inaccessible to the database. However, excess capacity can be used to manage various services of the database in accordance with one or more service criteria (e.g., Service Level Goals or Agreements).

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, apparatus and article of manufacture for optimizing a database query. Resource usage of one or more resources of the computer system are monitored. A condition code representative of the monitored resource usage is stored. A cost model is modified using the stored condition code. A query execution plan is generated for the database query using the modified cost model. The query execution plan is then executed in order to retrieve data from a database stored on the computer system, wherein the retrieved data is presented to a user for subsequent use and analysis.

Abstract: A temporary computer-stored first-unit intermediate result is generated while executing a first unit of work on a computer-based database management system. The first-unit intermediate result has properties. It is determined that the properties of the first-unit intermediate result are similar to properties of a second-unit intermediate result to be generated for a second unit of work when the second unit of work is executed on the computer-based database management system. In response, the first-unit intermediate result is saved for use in executing the second unit of work.

Abstract: A system and method for efficiently querying a network of logical digital advertising units by creating a list of named criteria meaningful for the particular network and then associate relevant criteria with each unit. A simplified query system is disclosed having two selection lists, one for choosing criteria of interest and the other for choosing an appropriate boolean operator, which allows sophisticated queries to be submitted with a few clicks of the mouse if the network is set up as disclosed herein.

Abstract: A system and method for distributing target advertising content to various electronic displays in a network of electronic displays. The invention discloses the technique of partitioning the electronic displays, partitioned both by geography and time, and providing an associated loop policy and frame criteria rules for each frame. The loop policy specifies a time period for repeating advertising content, and can optionally allow loop undersaturation and loop oversaturation for particular advertising messages. Frame criteria rules are disclosed that identify and describe allowable conditions that must be satisfied before a message is displayed, thus allowing advertisements, inappropriate for a particular frame at a particular time to be blocked.

Abstract: A system and method for efficiently utilizing network bandwidth in a network having multiple components that need to transfer a number of different datasets. The invention provides that distinct data transfer service agents be deployed to manage different kinds of data, and that each service has a separate network control schedule that can be independently controlled from the other services, resulting in a an easily configurable system where large content transfers can easily be restricted to non peak hours and smaller control and reporting data transfers can still be permitted during some or all peak times. In a digital signage network, this invention allows large data transfers of advertising content to be restricted to non peak hours, but advertising control and reporting can occur more frequently, and can easily be specified and modified to maximize efficiency of network resources.

Abstract: A system and method for efficiently managing advertising content on a network of electronic displays utilizing a broadcast day rule set identifies suitable conditions for the display of electronic messages at each display locations. Alternate embodiments provide for managed frame layouts, a loop policy to managing repeating content, weighting parameters, blocking schedules, dwell time parameters and device controls.
