  • Patent number: 9580045
Abstract: Method and apparatus for an electronic override of the brake shift interlock in a motor vehicle can provide for the vehicle to be manually pushed while it is parked without keys. A timed window is initiated upon detection of a parked state of the vehicle with its transmission in a park position and ignition key removable or removed. Selection of an out-of-park position is inhibited. The invention monitors activation of the brake pedal during the timed window. Override of the brake shift interlock is enabled while the brake pedal is activated during the timed window, thereby allowing selection of an out-of-park shifter position. The timed window ends after a predetermined time or event (e.g., after the driver's door is opened) to inhibit any further shifter movement from the park position until the next ignition key-cycle.

  • Publication number: 20150274097
Abstract: An apparatus for preconditioning a cabin of a non-electric vehicle uses power supplied from a source that is external to the vehicle, such as an electrical utility power grid. The non-electric vehicle includes an internal combustion engine, a battery, and an electric machine drive unit that supplies electrical energy to the battery when driven by the internal combustion engine. A mechanically operated preconditioning device is provided that can be driven by the engine when the internal combustion engine is operating and that can be driven by the electric machine drive unit when the internal combustion engine is not operating. An AC/DC converter is adapted to receive electrical energy from an external source and to supply such electrical energy through the battery to power the electric machine drive unit to drive the mechanically operated preconditioning device when the internal combustion engine is not operating.

  • Patent number: 9017216
Abstract: A method for controlling a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission and engine includes automatically engaging a brake, locking the transmission in neutral and starting the engine, in response to a signal whose origin is remote from the vehicle representing a desired engine start; and automatically engaging a brake and locking the transmission in neutral in response to a second signal indicating that the driver has exited the vehicle while the engine is running.

  • Publication number: 20100329488
Abstract: An active sound management system for a vehicle includes a plurality of zones defined in the vehicle, each zone including at least one speaker and at least one microphone associated therewith, and a control unit operatively connected to the plurality of zones, the control unit having an input line for receiving an input signal from the at least one microphone of each of the plurality of zones and an output line for sending an output signal to the at least one speaker of each of the plurality of zones.
