  • Patent number: 11957342
Abstract: A surgical instrument is disclosed herein. The surgical instrument can include an end effector that includes jaws configured to transition between an opened condition and a closed condition, a plurality of electrodes positioned within the jaws of the end effector, a control circuit, and a memory configured to store an algorithm configured to cause the control circuit to determine an impedance signal based on signals received from the plurality of electrodes, detect a media positioned between the jaws of the end effector based on the determined impedance signal, determine a position of the detected media based on the received signals, and generate an alert associated with the detected media and the determined position.

  • Patent number: 5724237
Abstract: A current sharing circuit forces current delivered to a common load to be provided in substantially equal shares by two or more D.C.-to-D.C. converters, particularly those of the type whose output varies according to a predetermined functional relationship with the frequency of a controllable signal generated by the converter indicating its operating frequency. The load current delivered by such converters typically varies approximately proportionately with the converter operating frequency when the converter input and output voltages are held constant. Based on the frequency of these indicating signals and the predetermined relationship between their frequency and the output current of each respective converter, it is determined which particular one of the converters is presently supplying the largest share of load current. The outputs of each of the other converters are adjusted to share the load more equally among all the converters.

  • Patent number: 4831508
Abstract: A circuit and method using a low frequency active switch for improving input power factor in power supplies utilizing a full wave rectifier and capacitor filter for supplying a filtered DC voltage from an AC power source. A switch control activates and deactivates an active switching once in each half cycle of the alternating voltage input. The switch control is connected to the active switching for operating the circuit providing high power factor.

  • Patent number: 4002963
Abstract: A regulated voltage converter utilizing an improved method of pulse width modulation is disclosed wherein acceptable current balance and limiting in the converter switching elements are speedily achieved within one half cycle of converter operation. Converter output current is monitored, shaped according to a non-linear transfer function, and integrated to form a voltage signal for comparison with a predetermined reference level. When the integrated signal exceeds the reference level, a control signal is generated to terminate the current pulse in the inverter section of the converter. The inherent balancing and limiting characteristics of this arrangement are easily extended to applications wherein multiple converter stages are paralleled to supply higher power to a common load.

  • Patent number: 3988662
Abstract: A thyristor controlled ferroresonant voltage regulator in which the output voltage is made adjustable by varying the reset flux level of each of two parallel magnetic core paths upon which the load windings are wound. Decoupling from the alternating current source is provided by a separate inductor. The two core paths are decoupled by magnetic shunts, which provides an inductance which may be designed to obtain a soft commutation characteristic for the ferroresonant capacitor. During one half cycle of the output waveform one thyristor is enabled by an associated control circuit to complete a circuit path for the resonant capacitor through a winding on the second magnetic core path, while the flux in the first magnetic core path is clamped; in the second half cycle, another thyristor is enabled at a time determined by the control circuit, to complete a circuit path for the capacitor through a winding on the first magnetic core path while the flux in the second magnetic core path is clamped.

  • Patent number: 3986052
Abstract: A transformer-coupled power switching device control arrangement utilizes an active feedback energy source connected to the primary of the coupling transformer to enhance the turn-off drive to the power switching device. The active feedback energy source produces an output directly dependent upon the magnitude of the power switching device output current and independent of the duration of said output current. When the output current drops to zero, the active feedback source is disabled, and a bias network is connected to the transformer primary. The bias network maintains a reverse voltage at the control electrode of the power switching device and establishes a bias current through the primary suitable for resetting the transformer core flux.
