Patent number: 5896905Abstract: In order to improve the wear of the trailing edges of the relief elements of a tread (1) for "heavy vehicle" tires, which elements are defined in the axial direction by circumferential grooves and in the circumferential direction by incisions (30) of a width other than zero and at most equal to 3 mm, said incisions (30) are inclined with respect to the normal (P) to the surface of the tread by an angle .alpha. of between 5.degree. and 25.degree. so that the resultant force (F.sub.F, F.sub.M) exerted by the ground on the tread tends to straighten the incisions (30) towards a zero inclination. The inclination of the incisions (30) is particularly advantageous in the case of a tread (1) provided with "wide" circumferential grooves having a step (4). Application for steering, load-bearing or driving tires.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1995Date of Patent: April 27, 1999Assignee: Compagnie Generale Des EstablissementsInventor: Patrick Lurois

Patent number: 5769978Abstract: In order to improve the resistance to separation between the ends of the working plies (31 to 34) of a crown reinforcement (3) and between the edges of said reinforcement (3) and the radial carcass reinforcement (2), the said plies have axial widths which are different from each other, and at least two of the widths are greater than the axial distance (L) between the median axes (XX') of the two lateral grooves (6) closest to the edges of the tread (1) and defining lateral regions (7) where the tread (1) has a meridian profile (8) radially recessed with respect to the meridian profile (9) of the geometrical envelope of its median zone.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1996Date of Patent: June 23, 1998Assignee: Compagnie Generale des Etablissments Michelin - Michelin & CieInventor: Patrick Lurois

Patent number: 5316062Abstract: Tread for heavy vehicles with radial carcass comprising a plurality of cimferential rows of blocks (13) having incisions (15), defined by circumferential (10) and transverse (12) grooves, said blocks being connected to each other in circumferential direction by platforms 14) which are arranged in the transverse grooves (12) and the height of which increases from the center towards the edges of the tread, the depth of the incisions (15) decreasing from the center towards the edge of the tread and the density of the incisions being maximum in the central zone (Z) of the tread.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1991Date of Patent: May 31, 1994Assignee: Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin - Michelin & CieInventor: Patrick Lurois

Patent number: 5297604Abstract: Tread for heavy-vehicle tires with radial carcass having at least one cirferential groove (1) in the form of a broken line and wide transverse grooves (2) in the form of a broken line defining blocks, the wide transverse grooves (2) having walls of constant and symmetrical inclination over a median zone (6) extending on both sides of the median plane over a width of between 40% and 75% of the width of the tread and having, beyond said median zone and up to the edges, walls of variable and asymmetrical inclination as well as two circumferential narrow side grooves (5) located at a distance from the edges not exceeding 1/3 of the width of the tread and having a depth of between 10% and 70% of the depth of the transverse grooves.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1991Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Assignee: Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin - Michelin & CieInventor: Patrick Lurois

Patent number: 5128089Abstract: In order to assure the geometric uniformity of a tire molded with a segment old when the sculpturing of said tire includes blocks 11 surrounded by recesses formed by grooves 15 and incisions 16, the said grooves 15 are thinned at the level of the joint planes 550 between segments. Furthermore, wear indicators 17 are arranged at the level of the joint planes 550 between segments.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1990Date of Patent: July 7, 1992Assignee: Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin - Michelin & CieInventor: Patrick Lurois
