  • Patent number: 11487269
Abstract: A method to derive and apply computer numerical control global offsets includes: measuring features of a machined part using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM); programming a first processor within the CMM to receive the dimensions of the features and to output computer numerical control (CNC) offsets; and forwarding the CNC offsets from the CMM to a CNC machining system to correct operation of the CNC machining system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 2019
Date of Patent: November 1, 2022
Assignee: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC
Inventors: Axel F. Antongiorgi, Patrick M Hilber, John R Wayton, Daniel J. Pinkelman
  • Patent number: 11253985
Abstract: A cup plug insertion tool comprises a cylindrical base and a cylindrical collet extending from the base and including at least two longitudinal slots that divide the collet into at least two flexible segments adapted to flex radially inward under force, an annular groove formed adjacent the base, the annular groove adapted to allow the flexible segments to flex radially inward, further wherein, the force necessary to flex the flexible segments radially inward is tunable based on a width and depth of the annular groove, a first section defining a circumferential outer diameter and a circumferential inner diameter, a second section defining a circumferential outer diameter that is larger than the circumferential outer diameter of the first section, a tip positioned at the distal end of the collet, and a chamfer formed between the outer diameter of the first section and the tip.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 20, 2020
Date of Patent: February 22, 2022
Assignee: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC
Inventors: Garrold A. DeGrace, Gabriel Gonzalez Gillis, Patrick M. Hilber

  • Patent number: 7209799
Abstract: A multistage machining process includes a plurality of stations. Workpiece feature quality is predicted based on decomposition of the machining process into sources of variation, reticulation of the machining process into machining stations and error models that account for significant contributions to feature quality including from categorical sources of variation.
