  • Patent number: 6415061
Abstract: Method of updating dictionaries in a data transmission system wherein strings of characters have to be transmitted in a compressed form from the transmit device to the receive device, the transmit device having a transmit dictionary storing codewords associated with the strings of characters which are transmitted instead of the strings of characters, the receive device having a receive dictionary storing codewords associated with the strings of characters, both dictionaries being updated each time a new string of characters has to be transmitted so that their contents remain identical.

  • Publication number: 20020071265
Abstract: An electromagnetic shield device for printed circuit boards (PCBs) which, in one embodiment, is made of conductive material and comprised of two parts. In another embodiment, the device is a singular element. In both examples, press-fit or compliant pins may be used to electrically couple the device to the PCB's ground layer. Alternatively, projecting pins or flat conductive plates can be used to provide this coupling. The device is also adjustable to accommodate PCBs of varying thicknesses. The device provides for added PCB stiffness while assuring prevention of electromagnetic radiation from the PCB's edge.

  • Patent number: 6341132
Abstract: A telecommunication node for an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) telecommunication network performs Segmentation and Reassembly (SAR) of ATM cells. The SAR particularly provides Virtual Channel Identifier (VCI) and Virtual Path Identifier (VPI) translation and further provides a Direct Memory Access (DMA) for accessing an external storage. When the VCI and VPI identifiers are representative of an Error Code Correcting (ECC) procedure to be carried out in the local mode, the SAR circuit performs a first DMA access which is decoded by an address decoder. Conversely, when no ECC procedure is locally required, the SAR decodes the VCI and VPI and performs a second DMA access which is also decoded by the address decoder. The latter decoding is then used by a Reed-Solomon Coder and Decoder for possibly performing an error correcting procedure on the ATM message formed by the ATM cells being processed.

  • Publication number: 20010056476
Abstract: A method and system of accessing, from a client system connected to an Internet Protocol (IP) network, a server system connected to a Proxy server by means of a non-permanent connection through a circuit-switching network. The Proxy server can receive from the client system a request for accessing information located in the server system. The Proxy server identifies in the request the destination IP address of the server system. The Proxy server then determines the resource identifier of the server system in the circuit-switching network referring to a table. The table can include, for each server system identified by a destination IP address, a resource identifier in the circuit-switching network. A non-permanent connection with the server system is established using the resource identifier associated with the server system. The information requested by the client system is then retrieved from the server system and sent to the client system.

  • Patent number: 6331814
Abstract: An adapter device for transmitting data from a local data-handling unit to a remote data-handling unit via an AC power line includes processing facilities that receive digital data from the local data-handling unit and transform the digital data into ISDN data. The adapter device also includes a burst transceiver circuit (BTC) that converts the ISDN data into low-voltage pseudo-ternary signals on a U interface. A transformer of the adapter device transforms the low-voltage pseudo-ternary signals into high-voltage pseudo-ternary signals and transmits the high-voltage pseudo-ternary signals via the AC power line. Such an adapter device may also be used for receiving the data from the local data-handling unit at the remote data-handling unit.

  • Publication number: 20010028148
Abstract: A connecting assembly is disclosed having a first component defining an opening, a second component adapted to be retained together with the first component and a connector component made of a superelastic alloy. Relative motion between at least two of the components causes a super-elastic activation of the connector wherein the activation simultaneously retains the components together with the connector interposed jointly therebetween. Preferably the connector component is pre-assembled to one of the first and second components. More preferably, the first component is pre-assembled with the connector and the second component is moved relative to the pre-assembled components to activate the superelastic alloy of the connector. Alternatively, the second component is pre-assembled with the connector and the first component is moved relative to the pre-assembled components to activate the superelastic alloy of the connector.
