  • Patent number: 11993707
Abstract: A polymer composition is described well suited for being combined with relatively short fibers. The fibers, for instance, can have a mean fiber length of less than 1,000 microns, such as less than 700 microns, such as less than 500 microns. The polymer formulation allows for intimate mixing with the fibers without having to use a sizing agent. In one embodiment, the composition contains a polybutylene terephthalate polymer combined with a thermoplastic polymer having lower crystallinity.

    Assignee: CELANESE SALES GERMANY GMBH
Inventors: Dirk Zierer, Patrick Nickolay, Tim Feuerstack
  • Publication number: 20230077194
Abstract: A polyester polymer composition is disclosed containing reinforcing fibers and having improved adhesion to elastomeric materials while also being formulated for medical applications and/or food service applications. The polyester polymer composition can contain a blend of different polyester polymers and can be free of hindered phenolic antioxidants. The polyester polymer composition can be used in overmolding applications in which the composition is initially molded into a polymer component and then overmolded with an elastomeric material. The elastomeric material can contain a copolyester elastomer and can serve as a sealing member.

  • Publication number: 20220403159
Abstract: Halogen-free, flame resistant and hydrolysis resistant polymer compositions are disclosed. The polymer composition of the present disclosure is also formulated to have improved electrical tracking resistance. The polymer composition contains a thermoplastic polymer, such as polybutylene terephthalate. The thermoplastic polymer is combined with a flame retardant that can include a phosphinate optionally in combination with a phosphite and/or a nitrogen-containing synergist. In order to improve electrical tracking resistance, one or more electrical resistance agents are added to the polymer composition. The electrical resistance agent, for instance, can be a flexible polymer.

  • Publication number: 20220332941
Abstract: A fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymer composition is disclosed that contains at least one mold release agent. The mold release agent can comprise a polar material and/or a non-polar material. In one embodiment, both a polar wax and a non-polar wax are used. The polymer composition may also contain one or more tribological modifiers. The tribological modifier may comprise an ultra-high molecular weight silicone.

  • Publication number: 20220033646
Abstract: Halogen-free, flame resistant and hydrolysis resistant polymer compositions are disclosed. The polymer composition contains a thermoplastic polymer, such as polybutylene terephthalate. The thermoplastic polymer is combined with a flame retardant that can include a phosphinate, a phosphite, and a nitrogen-containing synergist. In addition, the composition can contain various hydrolysis resistant components. For instance, the polyester polymer incorporated into the composition can have a relatively low amount of carboxyl end groups. In addition, the composition can contain reinforcing fibers that are coated with a hydrolysis resistant agent. The composition can also contain an organometallic compatibilizer.
