  • Publication number: 20050049828
Abstract: The invention relates to a processing device for an automatic perception system that involves the use of STN calculation units (1) which receive data from a data bus (7) and which are interconnected by a backannotation bus (6). According to the invention, the units are grouped together in hierarchical sets, in which the set of the order of 0 is formed by a single unit, the set of the order of 1 is formed by the combination of several order 0 set, the sets of the order of P greater than 1 are formed by a combination of lower P?1 order sets, the hierarchised sets of a given order P sharing a backannotation bus. The backannotation buses between a lower order P and a greater order P+1 are interconnected by means of a connection unit. The invention also relates to the method of using the device.

  • Patent number: 6717518
Abstract: In a process of detecting a person falling asleep, an image of the face of the person is acquired. Pixels of the image having characteristics corresponding to an eye of the person are selected and a histogram is formed of the selected pixels. The histogram is analyzed over time to identify each opening and closing of the eye, and characteristics indicative of the person falling asleep are determined. A sub-area of the image including the eye may be determined by identifying the head or a facial characteristic of the person, and then identifying the sub-area using an anthropomorphic model. To determine openings and closings of the eyes, histograms of shadowed pixels of the eye are analyzed to determine the width and height of the shadowing, or histograms of movement corresponding to blinking are analyzed.

  • Patent number: 6486909
Abstract: The purpose of this invention is a process and a device operating in real time for identifying and localizing an area in relative movement in a scene and determining the speed and oriented direction of this relative movement in real time. The process carries out temporal processing of the digital video input signal S(PI) that consists in deducing, from the variations between the value of each pixel in a frame and in the immediately preceding frame, a binary signal DP identifying whether or not there was a significant variation and a digital signal CO representing the magnitude of this variation, and a spatial processing consisting in distributing in a matrix these two signals successively for a single frame that is scanned through the matrix, and deducing the required relative movement and its parameters from this matrix distribution.

  • Publication number: 20020071595
Abstract: A method and apparatus for localizing an area in relative movement and for determining the speed and direction thereof in real time is disclosed. Each pixel of an image is smoothed using its own time constant. A binary value corresponding to the existence of a significant variation in the amplitude of the smoothed pixel from the prior frame, and the amplitude of the variation, are determined, and the time constant for the pixel is updated. For each particular pixel, two matrices are formed that include a subset of the pixels spatially related to the particular pixel. The first matrix contains the binary values of the subset of pixels. The second matrix contains the amplitude of the variation of the subset of pixels.

  • Patent number: 6304187
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device using an optoelectronic sensor in combination with an electronic unit arranged inside a motor vehicle. The sensor is adjusted in line with the head of the driver sitting in said motor vehicle at the same time as the inner rear-view mirror, which comprises a one-way mirror behind which the sensor is positioned. After detecting the presence of a driver seated in the motor vehicle they frame first the whole face and then the eyes of the driver in the video signal raser emitted by the sensor aided by the electronic unit and then determine the successive durations of blinking episodes, which are compared with a limit value situated between one duration typical of an awake person and another duration typical of a drowsy person. A signal (transmitted by an alram unit) suitable for waking the driver is triggered when the duration of blinking exeeds the limit.

  • Patent number: 5245631
Abstract: A process and a device transmits numerical data in the form of a sequence of words. The process includes an encoding phase, a transmission stage and a decoding phase. In the encoding phase, the data creates an analog signal whose period is composed of several fractions of the period, each one depending on a word of the data. The analog signal is transmitted. In the decoding phase, the signal is divided into p fractions corresponding to the encoding fractions, and the fractions are analyzed to deduce the sequence of words. The process permits a high flow of transmission for a particular transmission band width.
