  • Patent number: 9575991
Abstract: A technique of backing up a workload in a virtual environment includes identifying one or more files that are associated with the workload. One or more source volumes that include the one or more files are identified. A respective target volume is provisioned for each of the one or more source volumes identified. Only dirty blocks are copied (in a snapshot mode that prevents an update to the one or more source volumes during the snapshot mode) from each of the one or more source volumes to its respective target volume. The one or more dirty blocks are then copied from each target volume to a backup medium.

  • Patent number: 8951571
Abstract: Provided are polymer vesicles comprising polymersomes, a radiofrequency absorbing moiety, a protein or a polysaccharide associated with the inner leaflet of the membrane and a therapeutic or diagnostic cargo. The invention also concerns the use of these polymer vesicles for selective electromagnetic energy-induced delivery of therapeutic or diagnostic agents.

  • Patent number: 8281291
Abstract: A system and method are provided to allow demand loading and discarding of Java executable image (JXE) files. The virtual machine allocates an address space for a requested JXE program. The read-only portion of the JXE file is memory mapped from its nonvolatile location to the allocated memory space using read-only mapping and the read/write section of the JXE file are loaded into memory. When a page of the JXE program is needed, a page fault occurs if the read-only portion has not been loaded into memory. The operating system's page fault handler retrieves the needed page(s) from the nonvolatile storage location based upon the mapping data that resulted from the previously performed memory mapping. Because the read-only section of the JXE file is memory mapped using read-only mapping, the operating system's paging process is free to discard previously loaded memory pages that contain read-only portions of the JXE file.

  • Publication number: 20050057381
Abstract: Dithering techniques that efficiently combine a non-correlated noise signal with a desired signal are disclosed. Insertion loss in the noise path is relatively low due to combining means employed. In one embodiment, a self-contained dithering module includes a diplexer (or equivalent device) that provides an insertion loss associated with the noise signal of 3 dB or less. The signal+noise output can be used in noise-based application such as a data conversion process. Data conversion systems and analog-to-digital converters configured with on-board noise generation and/or diplexing capability are thus enabled.

  • Patent number: 6697479
Abstract: Selective filtering of an incoming telephone call is provided wherein a caller ID information of a third party wishing to converse with a first party already engaged in conversation with a second party is retrieved. The priority level associated with the third party is then determined and compared to a priority level associated with the second party. In the event that the third party has a higher priority level than the second party, the first party is alerted to the occurrence of the incoming call. Alternatively, if the third party has a lower priority level than the second party, the incoming call to an alternate destination.

  • Patent number: 5921160
Abstract: A release assembly for wire cutting apparatus. The present invention provides a release assembly for wire cutting apparatus which allows for dynamic alteration of the cut parameters. The release assembly allows for the length of the wire to be cut to be altered, allows for the biasing force to be increased or decreased to thereby reset the release assembly for a wide range of wire gauges, and allows for the stroke length to be altered to thereby either increase or decrease the cut frequency. The release assembly includes a housing having a distal end, a proximal end and a longitudinal chamber. A plunger tube is slidably disposed in the longitudinal chamber and is biased towards the proximal end by a dynamically adjustable spring mechanism. A gauge rod is mounted within the plunger tube at an adjustable axial position. In operation, the wire being pulled from the coil engages the gauge rod and pushes the gauge rod and plunger tube in the distal direction.

  • Patent number: 5564299
Abstract: Wire is straightened as an incident to being pulled through axially spaced upstream, intermediate and downstream straightening dies carried within a rotating arbor. Each die is formed with a groove which is specially shaped to cause the wire to tend to follow its natural path as the wire is straightened, the shape of the grooves reducing high stress concentrations on the dies and increasing the service life thereof.

  • Patent number: 5497928
Abstract: Wire is fed along a predetermined path by virtue of being pinched between an upper set of feed rolls and a lower set of feed rolls while the upper and lower rolls are rotated in opposite directions. The upper feed rolls are journaled cantilever fashion by an upper carrier which is fixed to the main frame of the apparatus. The lower feed rolls are similarly journaled by a lower carrier which is adapted to be moved upwardly toward the upper carrier to cause the lower feed rolls to pinch the wire against upper feed rolls after the wire has been threaded between the rolls. The lower carrier is moved upwardly by actuators which are offset laterally from the cantilevered rolls.
