  • Patent number: 5379030
Abstract: A selective call receiver (100) comprising an information display (118) and a processor (106) operationally coupled to the information display (118). The information display (118) presents at least information representing an area map (402) with a plurality of operating regions (403, 404, 405) in which the selective call receiver can receive an information signal from a selected channel. Each region in the plurality of operating regions (403, 404, 405) corresponds to a predetermined selective call signaling channel that may be selected for operation by activating at least one user activated control (407). The at least one user activated control (407) is operationally coupled to the processor (106) for effecting selection and reception of the information signal on the channel associated with the selected region on the information display (118).

  • Patent number: 5223831
Abstract: This invention relates to an ideographical character signalling system, such as an ideographical character paging system, comprising: input means for inputting a plurality of first and second different types of ideographical characters, said input means including coding means for coding both said first and second types of ideographical characters according to a first code; signal processing means for receiving a data signal comprising said first and second types of ideographical characters coded according to said first code, said signal processing means comprising code converting means for selectively coding the coded first type of ideographical characters according to a second standard code.

  • Patent number: 5182553
Abstract: A communication receiver (12) comprises a receiver (54) for receiving selective call signals including messages and further for receiving a receiver operating instruction, a control (82) for controlling a receiver function, a memory (67) for storing the received receiver operating instruction describing the operation of the receiver function being controlled, a retrieval circuit (58) for recalling the stored receiver operating instruction, and a display (84) for presenting the received messages, and further for presenting the recalled operating instruction. The memory (67) can also store information enabling the controllable receiver function, and both the enabling information and the receiver operating instruction can be reprogrammed to reconfigure the operation of the communication receiver.

  • Patent number: 5107259
Abstract: A selective call receiver displays messages in at least two scripts. The selective call receiver receives data including an address and a message to be displayed. A decoder decodes the data and recognizes a script select character therewithin. A memory stores at least two fonts corresponding to said at least two scripts, said scripts having different resolutions. A microcomputer is coupled to the decoder and the memory for selecting one of the fonts in response to the script select character, and a display is coupled to the microcomputer for displaying the message in the selected font.
