The first data storage carrier incorporates a hot-swappable communication connector and first and second disk drives mounted adjacent to each other in a side-by-side relationship. The first and second disk drives are addressable via a single data address using a data bus, with the first data storage carrier being removably mountable to an enclosure via the hot-swappable communication connector.
