  • Publication number: 20080023551
Abstract: An omnidirectional scanning system and method are provided for reading at least one optical code within a field of view of the scanning system and oriented in an orientation included in a set of multiple orientations. The omnidirectional scanning system includes at least one processor for operating the scanning system in at least two modes including a first mode which is a non-restricted omnidirectional scan mode for reading the at least one optical code oriented in any orientation of the set of multiple orientations, and a second mode which is a restricted omnidirectional scan mode for reading the at least one optical code oriented in an orientation of a selectable reduced set of the set of multiple orientations. The method includes the steps of operating the system in a mode selected from the at least two modes including the first mode and the second mode.

  • Publication number: 20050077359
Abstract: A system and method are provided for reading at least one optical code, including an omnidirectional optical code scanner system for illuminating, scanning and decoding at least one optical code within a field of view of the scanning system and oriented in an orientation included in a set of multiple orientations. The scanner system includes an actuator assembly having circuitry for providing for user selection of a mode selected from the group of modes consisting of: an omnidirectional mode for performing a read operation for reading an optical code oriented in any orientation included in the set of multiple orientations, a restricted omnidirectional mode for performing a read operation for reading the optical code when oriented only in an orientation of a reduced set of the set of multiple orientations; and an aim mode for illuminating a target object and disrupting a corresponding read operation; and circuitry for generating a signal indicative of the mode selection.

  • Publication number: 20030042313
Abstract: A method and system for acquiring bar code encoded information wherein a bar code is read using a portable bar code reader to produce bar code data which has a wireless communications transceiver for transmitting the bar code data. The bar code data is transmitted to a second bar code reader which has a wireless communications transceiver for receiving bar code data and has an output circuit for communicating bar code data by a cable to a host computer. The bar code data and additional bar code data produced by the second bar code reader is communicated by the cable or by a secondary wireless connection to the host computer.

  • Patent number: 5945658
Abstract: A combined range laser scanner and method for electro-optically reading indicia such as bar codes having parts of different light reflectivity which utilizes two laser diode optical illumination systems optimally focused for different working ranges. A first laser illumination system is optimized for contact operation and has a range extending to approximately two feet. The second laser illumination system is optimized for longer range scanning from approximately two to seventeen feet, and the two laser scanning systems are integrated into one combined range laser scanner. The combined range laser scanner incorporates therein logic circuitry which enables either laser illumination system as required for the particular scanning application. Depending upon which laser illumination system is selected, the laser spot speed (e.g. amplitude of the drive signal for the scanning motor) is controlled to limit the frequency of received light signals to that of standard signal processing and decoding circuits.
