  • Patent number: 12371585
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a coating composition comprising a decarboxylated rosin acid (DCR) component as a coalescent agent, for use in a dispersion base comprising any of acrylic and/or polyurethane, and optional additives. The coating composition forms a continuous and homogeneous film even under humidity conditions. The DCR has a density of 0.9 to 1.0 g/cm3, a flash point of 135 to 175° C., an acid value of <50 mg KOH/g, measured according to ASTM D465, and a viscosity of 15 to 60 cSt at 40° C., measured according to ASTM D-445.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 6, 2022
Date of Patent: July 29, 2025
    Assignee: Kraton Chemical LLC
Inventors: Patrick van Waes, Michael Bulanov
  • Patent number: 12252580
Abstract: The disclosure relates to epoxy-based compositions comprising a decarboxylated rosin acid (DCR) component, suitable as an efficient plasticizer. It further improves hardness, elasticity, UV exposure viability properties of the paint and coating compositions. The DCR increases the bio-based renewable material content of a coating formulation and provide solutions for phthalate-free products.

  • Patent number: 12246270
Abstract: A method of defoaming a system subject to foaming by using a defoamer composition is disclosed. The defoamer composition contains (a) 80 to 100 wt. % of a decarboxylated rosin acid (DCR) having a density of 0.9 to 1.0 g/cm3, a flash point of 135 to 175° C., an acid value of <50 mg KOH/g, measured according to ASTM D465, and a viscosity of 15 to 60 cSt at 40° C., measured according to ASTM D-445; and (b) 0 to 20 wt. % based on total weight of the defoamer composition of at least one component selected from the group consisting of nanoparticles, surfactants, hydrophobic compounds, and mixtures thereof. The defoamer composition is very effective in controlling unwanted foam formation or reduce already formed foam in the system.
