  • Publication number: 20100089823
Abstract: Already-treated sludge is fed back into incoming sewage, and is effective to supply nutrients needed for the microbiological breakdown of the sludge. The feedback sludge has a solids content of 10% or more, and has been sheared and heated to drive its viscosity down to 10,000 cP or less. In sludge done that way, nutrients are preserved and presented to the sewage to be treated in highly liquidised and solubilised form, whereby the nutrients are very bio-available to the microbes in the sewage. Large improvements in the elimination of biomass can result.

  • Publication number: 20100046127
Abstract: A residual current device comprises a circuit (CT, 10, 12) for detecting a current imbalance in an AC supply to a load indicative of a residual current and providing a corresponding output. A relay RLA has contacts SW1 in the AC supply to the load. The relay contacts SW1 automatically close when a closing current is passed through the relay and is thereafter maintained closed so long as a holding current, less than the closing current, passes through the relay. A capacitor C1 is connected to the AC supply in parallel with the relay RLA such that, upon application of power from the AC supply, current flows to the charge storage device. An electronic switch SCR2 in series with the relay is turned on when the voltage on the capacitor exceeds the breakover voltage of a Zener diode ZD2 to allow discharge of the capacitor through the relay to provide a current exceeding the closing current, the AC supply thereafter providing a holding current for the relay at least when the supply is at a certain minimum voltage.

  • Publication number: 20090107920
Abstract: When liquefying sludge, e.g as in U.S. Pat. No. 6,808,636, the combination of temperature, pH, and shearing, is synergistic. Described here is a system that provides for collating test sampling and full-scale data inputs, recording achieved results and the engineering parameters that achieved those particular results. The data is presented in e.g a table format, which assists design engineers to zero-in on the combinations of parameters that will likely give the desired results.

  • Publication number: 20080302889
Abstract: Sewage sludge that has been de-watered to 25% solids is subjected to a combination of shearing and heating that liquefies the sludge, and drops its viscosity to below 12,000 cP. The fact of liquefaction prepares the sludge such that subsequent drying can be done more cost-effectively than hitherto. After drying, the dried sludge can be incinerated.

  • Patent number: 7269303
Abstract: A system and method are provided for remotely enhancing digital images by communication of the digital images over a network to a remote processing facility. More particularly, the digital image routing method includes steps of receiving a digital image packet that includes a digital image and a customer preference parameter and transmitting the digital image packet to a remote digital image editing system selected according to the customer preference parameter. In addition, the digital image routing method may include the steps of enhancing the digital image based on the customer preference parameter, and transmitting an enhanced digital image packet that includes an enhanced digital image and an enhancement description packet that describes the enhancements made for each of the digital images.

  • Patent number: 7242557
Abstract: A residual current device (RCD) senses a differential current flowing in A.C. mains supply live and neutral conductors and disconnects the supply from a load when the differential current exceeds a predetermined level. The device further includes a circuit for detecting a double grounded neutral fault in which current flows in an N-E loop formed by a double grounded neutral. The current is sensed as a differential current and detected as a correspondence between causing the current to flow and sensing the differential current.

  • Patent number: 7068047
Abstract: A residual current detection circuit comprises a current transformer CT for detecting an imbalance current indicative of a residual current and a full wave restifier FWR for providing an output whose amplitude corresponds to the magnitude of the residual current. The FWR output is applied simultaneously to two channels. The first channel includes a first comparator COMP1 to provide a first signal which persists during periods when the amplitude of the output exceeds a first level. The second channel includes a capacitor C2 which acquires a charge corresponding to the output level and a second comparator COMP2 for providing a second signal in response to the capacitor voltage exceeding a second level. An output is provided from the circuit only when the first signal is coincident with the second signal.

  • Publication number: 20060120929
Abstract: A germicidal quartz lamp producing ultraviolet radiation having a sleeve coated with a titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide is impregnated or embedded into the sleeve and mechanically held. Ultraviolet radiation having a wavelength of approximately 254 nm generated by the germicidal quartz lamp causes hydroxyl radicals to form on the titanium dioxide surface. The hydroxyl radicals act as a powerful oxidizing agent that destroys pollutants. In one embodiment, different densities of the titanium dioxide coating are formed along the longitudinal length of the quartz lamp. A longitudinal portion of the quartz lamp may be free of any titanium dioxide coating permitting the ultraviolet radiation to pass therethrough creating a germicidal effect. The titanium dioxide may be heated to a temperature above the melting point of the sleeve to create the mechanical bond. The present invention is useful in the commercial food industry or for consumer use.

  • Patent number: 6975191
Abstract: A resettable switching device, e.g. a relay, comprises a fixed contact (18) and a movable contact (28). A solenoid (12) is fixed relative to the fixed contact and a ferromagnetic plunger (20) carries the movable contact. A spring (24) biases the plunger away from the fixed contact so the device is normally open. When the device is set a further ferromagnetic element, e.g. a plunger (22), holds the first plunger (20) in a closed-contact position by magnetic attraction against the action of the spring (24). When a predetermined current condition exists in the solenoid the magnetic attraction between the element and plunger is reduced below the level necessary to hold the plunger so that the movable contact disengages the fixed contact.
