    Abstract: A box is for containing one or more four-legged live slaughter animals prior to slaughter, and comprises: a bottom; two sidewalls extending along sides of the bottom, and having a length; a gated inlet formed at a first end of the sidewalls; and an end wall formed at a second end of the sidewalls and opposite from the inlet gate. The end wall is configured for allowing the one or more animals in the box to see through the end wall when at the inlet to the box, wherein a side wall is provided with a ventilation window formed as a through-going opening through the sidewall, and wherein the ventilation window comprises barring means for preventing an animal from extending its head through the ventilation window, which barring means are further configured to prevent an animal from viewing through the ventilation window as it enters the box through the inlet.

The slaughtering system includes one or more water supply mechanisms configured for supplying drinking water to boxes. The boxes and the water supply mechanisms are configured to couple to supply drinking water to animals, when contained in a box.

    Abstract: An anesthetization apparatus for anesthetization of four-legged slaughter animals, prior to slaughter, wherein the anesthetization apparatus includes: a receiving section configured to receive a pre-filled box containing one or more slaughter animals; a anesthetization compartment; a transport mechanism for transporting the received box between the receiving section and the anesthetization compartment; and a removal mechanism for removing the box from the anesthetization compartment, wherein the anesthetization apparatus further comprises a stress-reducing compartment configured for receiving the box from the receiving section, accommodating the box for a period of time for calming the slaughter animals in the received box before anesthetizing; and wherein the transport mechanism is configured to transport the received box between the receiving section and the stress-reducing compartment and from the stress-reducing compartment to the anesthetization compartment.
